Hi guys I am new to this site but I heard it was awesome. I have been using dvd shrink for quite some time now and I am sick of it not being able to work. I am also sick of compressing my dvds and want to start burning dual layer disks ONLY.

My question is: Can anyone tell me what programs I need? Where to get them? and How to use them?

The only software I ever used for this kind of thing is dvd shrink, and it automatically used nero to burn. So any new software is going to be totally new to me. But I am excited to learn it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance guys!!!

Wow....guess you have been out of the loop for quite a while. Dvd shrink has not, nor will ever be updated for newer encryptions.

Use dvdfab HD Decrypter, as it's free and still being updated. Download it from this site: http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm

You can also use fixvts after ripping with dvdfab, as it 'cleans' up the rip and makes it easier to be read or burned.

A much better burn engine to use is imgburn. It's much better than nero IMHO.

My process of ripping movies is dvdfab> fixvts> dvd shrink> burn.

I see. But if I want to only burn to a dual layer disc I don't need shrink correct? Also can these other programs still get rid of all the menus and stuff so I can just put the movie in and it plays?

Thanks for the help

The paid version of dvdfab allows you to remove the menus and other stuff you don't want. The free version allows you to either rip main movie only, or entire disk.

Oh, you can still use dvd shrink to remove the stuff you don't want, as you can change the preference settings from dvd5 to dvd9 format.

Ok. I am really sorry but DVD5, DVD9 format? is that the difference between single and double layer?

Again I am sorry with questions that must seem so stupid to you. But many moons ago when I started using dvd shrink I was shown how to use it and that's all I did. Now I don't want to use and everything else is Greek to me.

Dvd5 format is single layer (4.7GB) disks.

Dvd9 format is dual layer (8.5GB) disks.

Check the second link in my signature, as it's what I call a 'one stop shop' for ripping and burning dvd's.

if you going to do the movie only you don't need to spend 1.75 each for a DVD+R DL (dvd-9)blanks when you can spend 23 cents each for blank dvd-5s and use DVD Rebuilder which will give you perfect picture quality with no quality loss burning to a dvd-5.unless you just want to throw you're money away?? matter of fact doing the movie only you seldon even need DVD Rebuilder as long as the compression is 75% or better. In the last month i've only needed DVD Rebuilder once. so rip with dvdfab decrypter doing the movie only, encode with DVD Rebuilder and burn with imgburn, more info here.

and the reason dvd shrink doesn't work is because it hasn't been updated in years. its an old outdated program that needs help using it like dvdfab decrypter fixvts etc. or there are payware options that are in my link. basically you need to completely re-think everthing!!

If you want to burn dl discs only, then

1) rip to hdd with dvdfabhd or anydvd
2)use either fixvts or vobblanker
3)imgburn to create iso and set layer break point (in build mode)
4) burn iso of "identical" dvd to dl disc (in write/burn mode)
