hey guys I am new to the forum, and decided to flash my 360 over, I read through the text book made a usb bootable drive, and put a via sata card in my pc, I am about to plug everything in but just had a few questions. The first one would be does the x box need to be powered on or just plugged in?when I am in dos. the second would be do I have to use a Korean optical drive? or would my drive with the right firmware work? also any advice would be great thanks again.

Well I haven't flashed a drive in the past month, but I do believe that they just came out with a new version of iprep... is that what you are talking about (what has the different version)?
Also, it probably says that that file in the "backup" folder doesn't exist yet because if you didn't flash your drive yet, it would not have backed up the original firmware. I think the guide mentions this.
As for your error, I assume you have the benq? It is pretty easy to flash. Just be sure to follow the guide exactly where and when it says to power on and off the 360

ya there is a new iprep 7.3, when I boot it up its different than the textbook and this is were i get lost. it gives me 3 options
1.backup firmware
2. flash hacked firmware
3. original firmware
I choose backup and entered my serial, and then it says only reboot your computer when this banner shows up(when it says computer its talking about my box right? then I press y for mk and then it shows the error.I am using a 128 mb flash does that matter ? the file I saw id very small ?

if you have a larger flash drive, use it, i think the smallest you can use is a 256.

well if the drives not big enough, there isnt enough room to save the file, so it would give you some form of an error.

it could be the problem, but im not sure as i normally use a 1 gig stick. you might want to download an older version of iprep and use it first before you spend money.

Use whatever version is in the guide you are using. That way you can follow the steps exactly. I'm sure there are torrents out there that have all the versions and such, just search a bit.

This is what I did. I used the Textbook?s Xbox 360 Firmware Tutorial 2008 edition. The tools I had were:
2gig flashdrive
iprep 101 v006
nforce4 socket am2 chipset
Benq.iXtreme.v1.4.rar
benq drive
I sat the 360 directly on my computer which was on it's side, metal to metal. I then simply followed the instructions and had no problems at all.
I've done this five times now with no issues.

heres the steps i take when i do my benqs. also, dont use 1.4 FW, use 1.4.1 since thats the newest.
step 1: put USB stick into USB slot
2: open up iPrep
3: load firmware definition (1.4.1)
4: select drive letter from drop down box
5: hit make bootable
6: shut down computer
7: deassemble 360 and hook the dvd drive up to the PCI card
8: turn computer on, boot off the USB stick
9: follow command prompts (it will put the orig.bin on the USB stick after you run the dben 1234567 12345 command.)
10: shut down 360 and computer and restart into windows
11: open up Firmware toolbox and make sure the FW it dumped is a legit one. if so move on, if not do as i said before to copy and paste a legit key in it.
12: restart computer and boot off the USB drive.
13: follow command promts and run the fben 1234567 12345 command to erase/flash the drive with the 'hacked' firmware.
14: shut down 360 and computer
15: put a burnt game in it to make sure it plays.
16: if it plays, put 360 back together
17: if it doesnt play games, see if it will play original games then restart computer off the USB drive, hook 360 back up and run the rben 1234567 12345 command to restore it to original shape. and start over.

try it by having the 360 already on when you type in 1234567 12345 and then hit y, turn off the 360 wait 2 seconds, turn it back on. that might solve that problem. if you get past that, and when you go to actually write the hacked FW, and it tells you to turn it off, DONT. because once you hit y to resend, it will immediately start to flash it, at least it does for me.

if its a 6421 card then all should be good, just make sure you have the 360 in slot 1. if its not in slot one, it wont work. and im off to class now so i wont be able to reply to this thread anymore tonight, unless we get out early..... so good luck.

that card will work, just use the sata port that is on the far right of the picture, as this should be port 1. if it doesnt work there, then try the other ports, eventually you will find port 1.
edit-- you might want to pull the card out and look at the lettering next to the ports, as they usually say ch1 ch2 etc.
