As a potential firmware modder, i am weighing the dis-advantages of modding my one-and-only xbox. Currently my xbox is MAINLY (and pretty much exclusively) used as a media center extender. Throwing in a firmware flash to paly backups really doesn't bother me, as i assume the media center would not be effected by this (which i asked to confirm in another thread).

My question here is specific... the only thing that interests me about xblive that i can think of is the netflix watch it now player being rolled out this fall in the dash update. Does anyone have any info on wether or not this feature would be available to somebody after getting a xblive ban? I understand that xblive will be necessary to GET it, but will it also be necessary to continue to use it?

And a quick side question... if your system gets a xblive ban, are you greeted with an annoying "your banned!" banner each time you turn the system on while its connected to the net, or are you simply and discreetly closed out? and i'm not talking tyring to access live, but just by turning the system on, and say, running media center? If so that would suck...

once you get banned, you dont get a message or anything, you simply cannot connect to LIVE anymore, and i would assume that you wouldnt be able to use your netflix on the xbox either since you have to LIVE to get it. so no LIVE = no netflix.

bummer...

wish there was a simple way to switch on/off the firmware of the drive...

the firmware is controlled by a chip in the drive... i'm wondering why a mod chip has not yet been made to inject code into the drive at point of load to allow backups to run... i mean, isn't this the nature of a mod chip?

If such mod chips were made, we could simply turn off the chip when jumping on live, thus disabling the only threat of a ban, and ensuring 100% safety while running backed up games...

I never had a desire to run a backed up game on live, so i would be perfectly happy with such a chip.

Perhaps i'm grossly ill-informed and such a chip exists? all i have been reading is that "firmware is the only way to go" on the forums...

There is always this option also, even if you are banned you could go this route (hxxp://lifehacker.com/396881/turn-your-xbox-360-into-a-streaming-netflix-player )if you have a Window media center pc.I have used this in it works alright not Great.Atleast I think you could ,I dont see why you would need live. But I am sure that what they will offer on live won't have any hiccups.

well...i did try the xbox media center netflix addon already... it runs very slow and buggish which is why i was hoping for the xblive version...

BUT, i did manage to also connect my puter directly to the tv for netflix through the vista media center which runs MUCH better... i was just hoping for a pro(non hackjob) version, as those are always much more polished...

But i was thinking to myself earlier...i could easily buy one of those netflix boxes for just over what it costs to subscribe to xblive. I'm thinking subscribing to xblive JUST for netflix is really not worth it.

All that said, i have determined that i dont even care if my xbox gets banned from live...

Bring it on microsoft!

granted meatful,

That is only a guess by wabashman, so it's not final. However, I do agree with him, that it is most likely the case that you have to have an active account on live otherwise no netflix. But it would be both of our guesses, and we will just have to wait and see.

So when your console gets banned, you can still play offline and do the normal things offline with no hassle right? Does your GT get banned too? Like could I just put my HDD in another 360 and have no problems going on live again?
