I was considering putting in a mod chip in my wii, but i was wondering what the extent of the ban would be if i got banned...

Would i still be able to browse online with opera?

would i still be able to purchase items from the marketplace?

Would i be able to do anything at all other then play games??

Thanks for enlightening me!

I have never heard of anyone getting banned going online. it's not like a 360 where you go online through live's servers. everything is game to game. at this point you shouldn't be worried at all.

I still play my wii, just not as much. Gave my PSP to my son.

so the take-home message is... as long as i dont take a backup game to on-line play, i'm untouchable?

The take home message is that you can do whatever you want. There's no online detection for backup games. In fact, there's not even any system for banning consoles so even if they did somehow detect you (which they cant anyway) you still wont get banned.

I wouldn't count on this at all.

Because currently nintendo is working on a way to block cheaters and mod chips this is why we haven't seen any new firmware for the wii yet.

Just watch the next wii firmware 3.4 will most likely lock down the firmware and the drive.

Or something else nasty.

WEll we just wait and see.

oh... well if the firmware update 3.4 rolls around, will it update automatically, or will i get the option to install? at least if i get the option, i can research online if its ok to do so before i update it.

If its automatic... then i'm afraid of an auto ban when i come back home for the evening some day...

Yes you will have the option of whether or not to update your firmware. I really don't think Nintendo would ban users with modchips so there is no need to worry.

Don't listen to susieqbbb. He was telling people that firmware 3.3 had killed all homebrew, brickblocked and scrubbed disks after the last update.

Listen well: There's no way that nintendo can detect current modchips with current consoles through a firmware update. Future consoles might have new ways to detect modchips, but the current ones are safe.

And wii firmware updates are optional until you want to play a new game. Games released after a firmware update generally require that firmware or later to play, but ones before that dont need an update.

And i wouldn't be saying that..

Remember that firmware 3.3 blocked home made mod chips so dont say it isn't possible it is.

Susieqbbb does not know what is going on in the scene. I've dealt with threads from susie elsewhere with just completely wrong information. it helps no one spreading stuff like that.

Same thing with this thread. Susie, if you are going to make any outrageous claims again, I would like to see something you're backing it up with. Some link to a news article or so.

Once again susie, you are wrong but I think I know what you are trying to talk about.

3.3 did not block any modchips. What it did was block disks that had been truncha signed to remove the 001 error. Some of the homemade chips required you to truncha recent games because they could not bypass the error. But even if you are using one of these very old modchips you can still play your games by loading them through gecko in the homebrew channel.

So it didnt block the chip. It did make it harder to play some games if you have one of those chips, but not impossible.
