Hi I recently soldered in the wiikey to my wii, which I know isn't d2c. I'm not a novice solderer and everthing went smoothly so I'm pretty sure I made no mistakes there. I got my wiikey from modchip.ca, I bought the non-updated one figuring I would be able to update it myself. I have wii firmware 3.3U (bad?). So is it right that the first step to take would be to load the setup disc? Then update to 1.9s? I first tried burning the GCOS/padded v1.3 config (I have a GC controller) from the wii update thread on this forum using ImgBurn @ both 2X and 4X speeds w/ both Memorex DVD-RW 2X and Memorex DVD+R 16X. I got a disc read error w/ both of these. Then I read somewhere that maybe I needed to try v1.2 first. I repeated the same process and got the same results. I bought some Sony* AccuCore DVD-R 16X/1X because I read that DVD-R's are more likely to work, but unfortunately my DVD drive won't burn onto DVD-R's. I get an error in ImgBurn. So if I find a way to get the setup discs onto a DVD-R, will all my problems go away, or is there some other thing I should try? If I messed up the soldering would it lead to this problem? I really need some help here.
Thanks

I have the same Wii FW, Wiikey from Modchip.ca with older FW. I ran the 1.9s update disc first then the cfg disc. I have never heard of song AccuCore discs but as I understand it the Wii is pretty picky about the quality of the discs. I think it is generally accepted that memorex are not that great, again I don't know about Song. The Wii should read the DVD+R, haven't heard good things about RW media and Wii games. I would try good quality media and burn slow 2x, 4x, then give it another go round. ---Chikn.

Oops, I corrected it above, I meant to say Sony. Anyway I can't burn on DVD-R's so it doesn't matter. So I should try burning/loading the 1.9s firmware first and then the 1.9s config? What about the 1.3 and 1.2 configs? Also do you have a DVD+R brand name that you know works for setup discs? Next on the list I think will be Sony DVD+R's.
Thanks

I use and have heard Verbatim works well. I am sure there are other decent DVD+R brands. I have burned a few Sony DVD+R and 3/5 worked. ---Chikn.

I got Sony DVD+R's and tried burning/loading 1.9s firmware, 1.3 and 1.2 configs. None of them worked. I guess I could try getting Verbatim, but I feel like there's some other big problem or some simple thing I'm missing. Anything else that could be causing this problem?

Woohoo! Nm, I got it to work! I actually missed one of the solder points, so yeah I fixed that and now I got the discs up and running. Hopefully I won't encounter anymore problems!
Thanks for your help!

ron... i believe its a very bad idea to post your console serial number on a mod forum... nothing like painting a red X on your head...
If i were you i would edit your 2 posts and x out all but the first 5-6 digits...
