I've got 3.71 m33-2

I read that I was supposed to be able to update this going to the 'network update option'.. but when I did that, when it got to the part about where you have to read it before you accept yada yada, the license agreement thing still said it was coming from SCE.. So does the Network Update option not work for this custom firmware? Is there another way to update it?

is it okay to re-format my memory card now that the custom firmware is on it? and is this custom firmware the CFW that I've seen--or is that something else?

If you have 3.71 M33-2, you don't need to connect to the network as far as I could remember...
Upgrade to 4.01 M33-2 and it will ask you if you wanna upgrade by connecting to the network.
That is the only time it connected to the internet to pull the CFW files and add them on the PSP to complete the upgrade.

So.....if the updater is asking to connect to the internet to update 3.71 M33-2, then yes, its safe to connect to the internet.

what about formatting my memory stick? is it okay to format it after the custom firmware is updated?

Yes it is and we are suppose to do that anyways so that it sets us up to play homebrew.
Once formatting memory off of PSP, hook up your PSP to PC usb and see your folders set up and have fun.

man this is starting to pee me off i got cfw 3.71 m33-4 every time i try n put 390 or 401m33 it hangs at 99% and bricks my psp is it coz its a jap psp? coz i got my other psp and that went to 401 m33 no probs... any help would b g8... PS im a NOOB lol
