Why does nero always burn my DVDs at 1x?

For example I am using dvd shrink 3.1.4 and I told it to burn using nero and it is burning at 1x, even though I told it to use the maximum speed. I have 2.4x verbatim DVD-Rs and the sony 510A. The same has happend with other combinations and even burning directly from nero burning rom.
