Hey guys, I am awaiting my Talismoon fan which will probably come today or tomorrow, and I also have a small led fan that I am going to go buy one of those metal 'cage like' fan covers for it and cut a circle out ontop of the case for installation. Was just wondering if you guys would recommend taking out the fan shroud, and also removing that metal piece that is stuck to the top lid?

I don't want to leave the shroud off its thats a bad idea.

Hit me up with your opinions on what case mods I can install for max rrod prevention.

I actually did this to mine a last week so I can offer a few suggestions.

1) You def. need the fan shroud in place. I recommend doing the fan shroud mod as well.

2) I wasn't able to use an 80mm fan or a 60mm fan without cutting the cpu heatsink. There just isn't much room. There's a straight plastic piece on the top shell half at the front of the case which sets behind the rf board. That's where I set my fan. There are smaller cpu fans available though it you don't want to have to mod the heatsink. But if you have one of the newer gpu heatsinks that have the copper pipe and radiator attached then you probably would want to add the fan on the right side of the case and have the fan in the vertical position.

3) Loose the rf shield, the metal housing. I just grab one side and yank it off. If pops the two plastic overmolded tabs off without messing up anything. Otherwise take a dremel or some tinsnips to it and cut out what you need to.

4) I used the 12v supply at the front/top side of the board and the fan is pretty loud. I think on my next one I will add stock fans to the side and use 7v instead.

5) Just for effect I attached 3 blue led's to the bottom side of my 60mm fan, wired them up to the fan very neatly and I'm pretty pleased with it.

6) My girl has been playing infinite mode on Dead Rising for hours at a time. I think the most I've clocked her at is about 6.5 hours and the case was slightly warm which is awesome compared to how hot if felt after only playing for two hours straight.

Good luck with it.

Thanks a ton for your reply. Very good stuff.
About the 80mm fan... I was all excited to make it, so I cut a circle in my case with a wholesaw, and took one of those metal shield pieces off an old powersupply. The realizing that the heatsink inside the case is like a 1/4 inch away from the top of the case. DAMN!!! So I'm basically just using that hole as a ventilation area at this time. I can't find a fan thin enough for that spot. (im pretty sure a fan that skinny wouldnt blow much air anyways hehe) Anyways, I'm thinking of a vertical fan with some leds. My tailsmoon was installed today, and let me tell ya, the nitro mode makes it impossible to even hear the tv. haha.

Anyways, I am either going to install a vertical fan, or just buy a used case off ebay or something and cut the hole in the proper spot to install an 80mm.
