After all the residue between the processors and the heatsinks are cleaned away, what would happen if you placed the heatsinks back on the processors without adding the thermal compound between them? Would the Xbox 360 still work?

the gpu/cpu will heat up to the point of permanent damage. it can happen in a matter of seconds.

AS5 helps transfer the heat by filling in the gaps of the heatsink. if you place the heatsink on, and then remove it, you'll have to start over because there will be air bubbles in the compound.

I did try to use the 360 without the compound, but it kept on freezing. It was only on for a miniute or two. Could that have permantly damaged the processors?
