question
My girlfriends notebook which is a gateway her screen was cracked and has been for about a year and now that i have gotten it replaced its at the start up screen and its asking for a password but we dont know what it is and i went into the boot menu at startup and i cant figure out how to disable it or how to get past it ?? anyone know how to help i have no idea?? thanks

if it's a windows logon password you can use this free utility to reset the password. I've used it a couple of times and it has worked everytime.

If it is laptop BIOS password, the only way to reset it is to shortout the eeprom chip. It is more complicated but it can be done, you just have to look for the directions for your particular laptop.
