Could you theoretically extract a .rom file from the Megaman 9 .Wad? To play on an emu? I wonder how easy/hard this could be.

Yes, you can. I followed the guide on extracting the rom from wads and repacking them with a new rom awhile back (before the automatic wad repacker programs)

I dont recall where that guide was, but I'm sure its still available somewhere. However, its generally much easier to just find the rom you're looking for online.

It doesn't overly seem like anyone has thought of this as im having no luck finding any news about it, I would do it myself if I had anything to go on, whats this automatic .wad repacker we're talking about? I wonder where I could look for this.

This cannot be done.
It's been stated that this game is NOT actually programmed FOR the NES, as an NES game, just made to play, look and sound like one.

It does a great job, but I'd rather it be this way.
Without an extractable rom.
It sounds awesome, but that'd kill sales, and it would probably make Capcom wary of doing this again.

And Mega Man 9 is a really kickin' game, so pay for it, and support Capcom so they make more, k?

You're somewhat misinformed. A VC game wad contains several files, these include the channel itself, an emulator and the rom file. The roms contained in the wad are identical to roms you can find online and can be played with standard emulators.

@jinnai3k: Just google megaman 9 rom if you want to play it on an emulator. If for some reason you have your heart set on extracting the rom from the wad then do a search for wad unpacker.

Thanks man, although another point was raised on another forum I posted this in; it's a Wiiware game, not a VC one, sooo rom extraction seems highly unlikely, upon delving into the .wad file and looking into the 00000002.app file which would contain the brunt of the ROM data, i've found this to be true.

I wonder if a new emulator would be required altogether for Wiiware, i'm thinking yeah.
