This has probably been asked a few times, but I've been reading up on everything and it sounds pretty easy to set everything up for backing up 360 games etc.
I've modded my xbox 1, opened it up put in a 500gb hdd, replaced the cd drive on it..
So its not like I've never modded something. I'm just new to the whole 360 scene and I was wondering how often are people banned from xbox live if they try playing a backup game over live. I've read all about applying security patches and everything that you need...just wondering is all. I want to be able to play on Live but getting 60$ for peanuts sounds tempting..

That depends, if your game is not stealthed or not stealthed correctly then it is easily detectable and you will get banned. Either way, sooner or later you will be banned if you have a modded console, its just a matter of time when the banhammer will drop.

they arnt sitting on your couch with you, so unless you go on live you wont get caught. however if you sign into live and try to do a dashboard update you could get caught. once its banned its banned. if you just play offline, then you shouldnt be having this conversation.

whenever i turn on my xbox, it retrieves my xbox live id and gamer score... i assume it talks to xblive even though i'm not ACTUALLY trying to log in to live (i dont have a subscription so i cant).
Is there an option in settings or something that i'm supposed to disable to restruct my xbox from retrieving my gamertag? I would prefer to restrict all communication with my xbox to MS... but i dont want to pull out the net cord as i have my media center extender set up and i use it all the time.
I want the option of reverting back to original firmware to jump on live in the future if i ever do make that decision, and i also want the luxury of not caring about staying on top of updates unless i REALLY want to jump on live... which probably wont be for the next year or 2.
Please let me know if there is something further i should to do sever that communication with Microsoft. Thanks!

I've had my 360 modded for about 2 yrs now and I have played on live since day 1. So far...knock on wood...I've been able to download updates etc and still get on. The way I see it, I'll take the risk. I've saved enough money to buy 20 360's buy not paying 59.99 for a game so if i get banned so be it.

shame, shame.... you dont pay for games?
i think most people here will say that they pay for games and then backup a image of that game to a dl-dvd and put the orig up for safe keeping.
me, i save nothing. i pay full retail price for all my games. :)
I have lost all and any respect i had for this site!

well i havent been banned and i played some backups online... its been flashed with ixtreme 1.4 for 3 or 4 months now with no problems... but that proves nothing... i did some research and it looks like if you do what your SUPPOSED to do you probly wont get the ban. (stealth, and have perfect data / video burned to a VERBATIM @ no higher than 4x speed)

I do pay for games I have to actually order them online but I do pay for them. I first got my 360 modded in South Korea when i lived there and they sold games (copies) there. I didn't know anything about modding so I read the forums here and found out how to mod myself. ocassionally I'll have a friend send me an exclusive that i can't wait to have like GTA IV but for the most part I've purchased my games. The last one being Pure and I've pre-ordered Fable 2. Any game from M$ studios I buy but anything from EA...not so much :-)
