So i finally stepped up to the plate last night and modded my xbox 360... all went perfect... i had a hitachi 46D drive. I used slax to get to mode b, no prob... booted to windows, backed up my firmware, selected 12x for read speed, flashed my drive... 100% completed successfully... "you can now shut down your pc"... and i did.
Re-assembled the xbox 360 completely... took it to my tv, plugged it in, and put it aside...
I went back to my pc and used xbox backup creator v2.8.0.275 to rip Halo3. first try it froze. I then read on a forum to go to the settings tab and click the unlock drive button if the disc is a DL. I did that, and i saw some messages here and their giving "failed to read" messages... but patched them and proceeded. I assumed this was ok. The process completed 100% and dumped a full image.
I then used the very same program and burned the image. I noticed that it dumped out 2 files: a halo3.dvd file (which was very small), and a halo3.iso file (which was the full image) As the textbook said, i selected the halo3.dvd file and it burned... selected 2.4 as burn speed, and used verbatim singapore DL DVD+R Discs, just as most of you have suggested in the forum here.
so it finishes ok, gives a completed message...
I take the disc to my 360, pop it in to do the initial test...
ANDDDDDD.....
"to play this disc put it in a xbox 360 console"
ARGH!!!
It recognized the dvd as a movie, not an xbox game!
Suddenly i was afraid... i asked myself "what if it reads all discs like this...!"
Popped in my original copy of halo3 and it fired right up as it should.
So... question is... what the crap did i do wrong??? I spent over a week pouring through the threads here to be sure i did everything EXACTLY as it should be done... and i didn't see anything odd at all other then the bizarre "failed" sporatic messages while xbox backup creator was reading the halo 3 dvd.
I was ripping with a samsung Kreon SH-D163B drive (purchased from ebay pre-flashed). The disc was recognized quite rapidly.
So after all that, i learned that the iXtreme firmware i flashed (as recommended by the textbook) refuses to boot games that are not stealthed... then i learned about XDVDMulleter... which determines if the dvd is indeed stealthed.
I also know that xbox backup creator automatically stealths the rips, so mulleter should not even be necessary, BUT when i ran XDVDMulleter on the image i created, it told me that there appears to be a problem with the stealth on the disc.... I dont know how that could possibly be... i did everything by the book... the tested and true methods... using the right drives, software, and procedures + media...
Why is this not working???
can anyone give me a suggestion as to where to go next?? I'm very frustrated... i ended up giving up at this at around 2am last night...
i would say you arnt ripping properly, but i dont know much about ripping so i would wait for a better answer. as for the flash sounds like you did it right. all i can say is make sure you are using verbatiums
well... i'm assuming that my dvd drive must have had problems reading my halo 3 disc. i tried gears of war last night... ripped perfectly, and plays great on my xbox 360.
I'm now very content. All i wanted to know is if the flash did in fact complete successfully. I now know i did it right. =)
I gotta say, the help i got on these forums was huge! The process would have been so much more difficult had i not read up on it!
