Hello, community! I tried to find the rules i should follow in order not to be banned, but didn't find much of the guides i needed.
What i do need, however, is your desperate help, because i'm at my wit's end! I've been struggling with this for days and no person could actually tell me what might be wrong, so i turned to this community.
Here is my problem. I have several images that take a lot of space on my hard drive and want them moved to a dvd. Each of the images is like 6 or 7 Gigs large, so for that, i obviously turned to Dual Layer DVDs.
I own a laptop who does not write Cds so i use an external writer, an ASUS external Slim DVD Burner SDRW-0806T-D , to be exact.
I have been burning Dual Layer DVDs before, with the same writer, the same program and using the same media. So it DID work before!
Now what happens is I tried 2 Verbatim DL and 1 TDK DL and the same error appears. I simply cannot burn the images whatsoever! I tried it with Nero, I tried it with MagicISO, I tried it with ImgBurn and they all react the same.
ImgBurn tells me "Disc Not Empty", as soon as i pop the DL DVD in the tray, Nero tells me "TheDisc Is Not Writable" and MagicISO says "Non-Blank DVD+R Media is not supported". And every program ejects my DVD, when it's obvious i have not been writing anything on them, I just bought them and they're not cheap in my country, either. :((
Now, if anyone can help me and needs some detailed information on this error that's driving me nuts, i have 2 Nero Info Tool logs and several captures of the errors, but don't know how to post them so that i don't break the forum rules.
I BEG YOU TO HELP ME, I'M SIMPLY GOING NUTS NOT KNOWING WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND WHAT SHOULD BE FIXED!
PLEASE, HELP ME!
Thank you so much, in advance!
Mick.

you might try flashing/ doing a firmware update and see if that does the trick. will it read DVD-/+R SL (DVD-5) blank disc?
you can copy and paste the logs if you want
how old is the burner? has it been used heavily?
it may be shot.

ZoSoIV, thank you for your reply. But i don't understand what "firmware update" means... I own an ASUS external Slim DVD Burner SDRW-0806T-D, so what should i do to it, regardind this firmware update?
And what does "will it read DVD-/+R SL (DVD-5) blank disc?" mean? (I AM A NOOB... )
I can't remember how old it is, bought it 2006 i think, it has been used quite a bit, but now it still burns DVDs and CDs, with no problem whatsoever. Only the Dual Layer thing gets me bugging.
Ok, i will post the logs, maybe that will help. Here they are.

ZoSoIV, would you mind telling me if there's a place where i could find this firmware update for my Asus? I have Google-d it a lot and the Asus Teq Support seems really lacking.
All i have found was a driver for another Asus model, but working only for the Win98 OS. So i was wondering if there might be such a place, let's say an archive site where discontinued drivers might be found.
Thank you in advance!

I'm inclined to agree. I also didn't see anything wrong with your log.
Some assembly required.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME! I AM PRACTICALLY GOING CRAZY!
I uninstalled MagicIso, ImgBurn, uninstalled Daemon Tools completely, i uninstalled some other burning or emulating drives softs, I defragmented my HD, i triple cleaned the registry, restarted the PC each time to check for left overs in the registry, and finally I only left NERO alive. And guess what, SAME DAMN THING! WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG ???
I just burned a data CD with Nero with absolutely no problem, but when i try again and again burning that damn DL, NADA! I really am going CRAZY, just smoked 2 packs of cigs and that doesn't help much either!
Here's what Nero shows up:

Mick,
I did some searching (not exhaustive) and didn't find much about that drive. ASUS had an update for Win98SE and that was it. NO f/w update. I also did a GOOGLE search and what I found was NOT really that helpful. Something about being a Pioneer drive but NOT definitive. I'm actually really disappointed that nothing came up. Have you found anything that might give us some leads. I cross-flash would be awesome as some ASUS drives are Pioneer and Samsung IIRC. o_O
Sorry for NOT helping. At this point I would think that something is "wrong" with the drive but NOT 100% sure on that. If you or anyone can find some f/w that would be more than helpful. ;)

good luck mate.....

I'm about 99% sure the drive is shot AngryBeav. only other thing i know to do is try to fine an firmware update or try another external drive and see if it works , i bet it would. new drives are pretty inexpensive

Mick,
Some things to try if you haven't already.
-Another drive (maybe a friend has one)
-Another computer (anything with USB 2.0)
-A good drive cleaning (canned air and laser cleaner if possible)
-If ALL else fails a large hammer and some "pent" up energy would be fun. hehehe. ;P
Go here and enter "external dvd rw drive". You can change the price criteria to just about anything. I don't know exactly where you are located but hopefully this might help.
Again good luck buddy.

Have you run a CDSpeed DiscSpeed test on the discs? To check & see they are empty, or not closed?
I seem to remember someone here at AD that got a great deal at a b&m store on some DLs and found out why, they had already been written to and returned!
