audio disappears after a few chapters of copy

I've tried twice now to copy a particular dvd onto my hard drive, using two different programs, SmartRipper and DVD Decrypter, getting the same results each time. Visually, the copies are fine; however, in both cases I have audio for only the first couple of chapters. After that, the sound cuts out, and i have only visual. The directory on the hard drive appears identical to that on the DVD itself, so I can't tell what's missing. The only other thing that might be significant is the fact that the DVD I'm ripping from is not an original, but a copy. I haven't tried burning it to my hard drive using the simply drag-and-drop routine, though I probably could. I just can't imagine why that would work any better.
Any ideas?
