OK, I am building a new computer and such, I plan to leave out a hard drive and rom though. The computer I have now is an HP a6203w desktop, I was wanting to take out my CDRW DVDRW Lightscribe ROM drive, and put it in my new computer. As well as, my hard drive. If need be, since I know with registries and such it is almost impossible to take my hard drive and OS/software and have it work on new copmuter, I can just wipe the hard drive, and re install Vista on it and have all my software on a few cd's? right?
I am just trying to save money and use my hard drive and rom instead of having to buy new ones.
So you have a Hard disc drive and a burner from your old machine but want to put them into a new machine?
When installing a burner/rom drive as such is very straight forward, these are basically a plug and play affair. When it comes to a HDD however, things aren't so straight forward. I respect the fact (and many members here will sympathise also) that you wish to save a few sheckles here and there, but it's my opinion that if your unsure about these problems, how will you cope with a full system rebuild? I apologise if this seems harsh to you you but my advice is to give the parts you have to a reputable outlet and let them build it for you. There are dollars saved here as you can imagine...you have supplied the parts..they supply the expertise.
After a successful install of all components you can vista away to your hearts content...and all your current software (if vista compatible) will be in use without it being "elsewhere"
Thanks, and I am just going to buy a new hard drive and reinstall vista.
I am doing the build though, slowly and carefully with much info and guidelines and how to's. I want and need to learn, for my sake, and my future career that I want lol. Thanks though.
