Modded US Xbox 360 Selective on DVD Dual Layer medium?

I was planning on buying a modded US Xbox 360 but I heard that it is selective on the DVD Dual Layer medium (It's Verbatim brand I read here) and the modded Asian Xbox 360 is not selective (you can use even generic low quality Dual Layer discs), is this true?

Both should be able to play any. Its just recommended to use Verbatim because its good quality and apparantly won't put a strain on ur 360's laser

Yeah I thought so too, because they are both made from the same place (China lolz) and may contain same manufacturer of DVD Drive (BenQ, LiteOn or samsung?) only the region is not the same right?

Follow up question: Asian Xbox 360 is NTSC-J (Japan) right? Can I play NTSC-U (US) on an Asian 360?

No, u can only play NTSC-U games on american ones, NTSC-J on asain ones, etc.
