Robert Plant Agrees to Led Zeppelin Reunion Tour

Led Zeppelin at London's O2 Arena in December

Robert Plant has apparently had a change of heart and will join bandmates Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham (John's son) for a full-blown Led Zeppelin reunion tour set to hit the road sometime next year.

According to a report in today?s The Sun, Plant couldn?t stand the thought of being replaced, and the band's apparent plans to tour without him. According to an unnamed source, ?The rest of the band had all but given up on Robert joining them, but they were determined to go ahead so had started to seriously explore other avenues.?

Reports in recent weeks said Page, Jones and Bonham had been rehearsing and writing new songs in a London studio with several singers standing in for Plant, one of which?an unnamed American?who had performed so well the band was seriously considering hitting the road without Plant. Apparently, that was the straw that broke the camel?s back.

?When Robert realized the band were serious about doing it without him, it made him think long and hard,? The Sun source said. ?He realized he couldn?t face the thought of not being involved.?

The source continued, ?The band were over the moon when he told them the news. They are now forging ahead with the tour plans and they can?t wait to get on the road.?

The Sun is reporting that the tour is tentatively set for next summer. And if the response to the band?s one-off reunion show at London?s O2 Arena this past December is an early indicator, a full-scale Led Zeppelin reunion tour will undoubtedly be the biggest tour in the history of music. This is huge news and i will definitely be there!

Official Statement - "ROBERT PLANT Will Not Be Touring Or Recording With LED ZEPPELIN"

The following story is courtesy of Ian Youngs from BBC News:

LED ZEPPELIN frontman Robert Plant has scotched rumours that he is to tour with the band, describing speculation as "frustrating and ridiculous".

Last week, The Sun newspaper reported that he had agreed to a reunion tour.

But he has not and will not go on the road with anyone for at least two years after finishing US dates with ALISON KRAUSS on 5 October, a statement said.

"Contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with Led Zeppelin," it said.

"Anyone buying tickets online to any such event will be buying bogus tickets."

The rock legends got back together for a one-off concert, their first for 19 years, in London last December.

At the time, promoters said 20 million people tried to register for tickets as soon as they became available.

Speculation has since been rife that the surviving members of the band, with Jason Bonham, son of their late drummer John, would hit the road for a highly lucrative tour.

"It's both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head when all the musicians that surround the story are keen to get on with their individual projects and move forward," Plant said.

"I wish Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects." So looks like its not going to happen guys

Who'd see Led Zep without the frontman? not this little black duck! Oh and BTW......Varnulls virtues ... can be assured at this point.
If only the whole thing were tru... "a concert that could set the economy straight"

Could it be that this could just be a wonderful...tease? or a cover for "someones" past exploits? One wonders.. (just kidding)

Perhaps ZoSoIV has an inside view...!

I'm testing trivia ;) and age XD

Obviously Plant puts the music before the money... Interesting.

I can understand at his age why he doesn't want to do another tour back to back with his last, but 2 years.. seriously Bob.. most of us are glad to be offered work regardless of the money. Is it really going to take you 2 years to recover?

*me pokes Plantey* Old and decrepit eh? or is it fear of Jimmys satanism???

Zep w/o Plant? Why not? The recording of the London show I heard sounded pretty good Bonzo's son did a good job. Page is a bit slower and a little less "mobile" from what I heard... and Plant couldn't hit the high notes of his younger days...

Yes was still a great show w/o Wakeman (better with him), I'd still have to see Zep even with a differant vocalist... It took many attempts and aggravation to get to a Zep show and it wasn't till 77 that I made it (that was about the end of the road for Zep tours wasn't it?).

I thought Jason wasn't available though... dang it now I have to go look into this... lol

well as for now the tour IS ON without Robert Page at lead. Robert is touring with ALLISON KRAUSS WTF man whats more important a Led Zeppelin tour or Allison Krauss .apparently Robert Plants heart isn't into the tour or he would do it. Led Zeppelin window of opportunity is shrinking quickly Jimmy Page will be 65 in Jan and the band needs to do it now not three years later down the road when Plant is done touring with Allison Krauss. with or without Plant at lead i will be there to see the rest of the band reunite, maybe i can meet Jimmy Page again like i did in 1975 lol

FYI lysdexic yes 1977 was the last US tour cause was the death of Plant's son. but they did two shows in 1979 "The Knebworth Festival"

First let me state that I own (legally purchased) every song Led Zep ever put out. Top five rock band alltime for sure. Undoubtably still formidable musicians and artists. However they haven't done anything noteworthy in thirty years. I wouldn't pay an ungodly amount of money to see any (Rolling Stones, The Who, etc.) act living on past glory. Out to make a buck. Good for them, Who isn't? Just not my buck. I wish them great success on the nostalgia tour.

Cherish the past...live in the present.

Okay ZoSoIV. I surrender. Almost every song. HeHe.
At least the ones released in the U.S. that were current at the time.
Still love the music though. So, I guess just go to the concert for the experience itself. Why not? Hope you make it there.

@ZoSo I thought that was about the end of their touring days but the 70's was VERY rough on me, parts of my brain don't work the way they used to.

...and maybe this one is common knowledge to you Zep buffs but I didn't see it mentioned:

Quote:
THE NEW YARDBIRDS
London Blues

The earliest known recordings of the group that should become Led Zeppelin (Plant/Page/Bonham/Jones)
Remastered by Pink Robert

1. I Can't Quit You
2. I Gotta Move
3. Communication Breakdown
4. I Can't Quit You
5. Killing Floor
6. Fought My Way Out Of The Darkness - Hush Little Baby
7. She Wants You - London Blues
8. Dazed And Confused
9. White Summer - Black Mountain Side

Tracks 1-2: Tivoli Gardens, Stockholm, September 20, 1968 - Radio broadcast
Tracks 3-9: The Marquee, London, October 16, 1968

I had this on a cassette for a very long time and I had no idea that this was some kind of rarity until recently, so I let it to the Zeppelin circles.

PR

I purchased all Zeps USA releases on vinyl then again on 8-track then again on cassette. So I have no guilt about someone loaning me The New Yardbirds. I'm not sure if it's a bootleg or what and the recording is pretty low quality... it's just pretty dang cool to hear them before they went supernova.

If Plant's heart is elsewhere then that's where he should stay. It won't be the same... but no way I'd miss Page, Jones & Jason If there's a way I can see them again. Jimmy's showin his age a bit, but he sure looked like he still loves to perform when he did the gig in China.

You met Jimmy? Is he a decent guy or a jerk? Being the "best" is subjective, so I'll just say he's my all time favorite musician. It doesn't really matter to me what he's like as a person but I'm curious.

yeah he was a great guy, polite, warm, funny and very stoned lol. there was just a different kind of intensely about him (very intelligent) seem to be on a different level than the rest of us. i had the same vibe when i met Chris Cornell of Soundgarden also. my friend was a sound guy/guitar tech so thats how it happened,it was so fucking cool though that i will remember it forever!

ZoSoIV -

That's just too friggin cool. I've never been much on wanting to meet celebs... co-workers go nuts when Brady or one of the Celtics passes through the store (guess there's been others too), but I probably passed right by with nothing more than a quick hello if we made eye contact.

But Jimmy I wouldn't mind meeting, I mean how many people collect castles as a hobby? To know he's a decent guy raises him from hero to superhero in my little world ...lol.

The comments here about $ are kind of amusing. Everyone expects to earn a living when they do their job, the going rate is the going rate and that's that. I would think the loss of performing, the intoxication of thousands of fans screaming for you... the hysteria when you hit the first notes of the crowd's favorite tune... would be the biggest draw to go "back to work". After being at the very top it must be difficult to just move on

the drugs changed Jimmy in the late 70s and after that he was never the same. I guess heroin will do that huh lol. I haven't heard how his mental state has been the last 10 years or so, i often wonder. Led Zeppelin at there peak in 1975
