Ok, here is the setup and problem:
I have a Pentium II 300mhz, 128 mb of RAM, a Cendyne Lightning II (32x Lite-On), and a 6.4Gb HD and a Secondary 2.0GB HD (Old stuff, I know).
My problem is the writer dosen't perform nearly up to specs. It takes a good 10 minutes probably to write a disc when it should be taking 3 to 4 (from what i've read). I have all hard drives and both my secondary IDE channel drives (Master is writer, Slave is DVD drive) set to DMA, which stays enabled. I have installed the newest (4.71) ASPI layer, and have tried deleting the Primary Hard Drive Controller and then restarting (which was recommended in the forums). Nothing happened. The controller simply reinstalled itself like it was. I am at a loss as to what to do. I would like to burn at quick rates and am simply being held back by something software related I would guess, but i'm not sure. What do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance! Jordin M

hello,

Are you writing direct to disk or from the HD? Have you defragged the hd? Have you tried to download nero (free for 30 days and complete software available) and used their utility to assess your burning capability? Have you downloased sisoftware's free "sandra" software to assess your system?

best regards

128mb RAM is not much:

1) Do you have loads of programs (anti-virus and such) loaded all the time?
2) What is the cache setup in your CD-R software? If you have too large cache, Windows may start swapping
3) For testing purposes you can give Feurio! (audio burning software, see software sections) a whirl. It has possibly the most efficient burning core I've seen.
4) Upgrading to 256mb or more would be very smart and not expensive
5) Are you using Windows 95/98/ME ? On my computer Windows2000 was MUCH faster even with 128mb RAM since it has a whole lot better kernel.

The old school is back. All hail the new http://BitBurners.com !

I had trouble with my old cendyne burner. Nothing worked the way it should and it finally quit me all together. Swapped it out under warranty for an HP and wow!...no more problems.
