Dirty Disc Error... SSBB... and DL DVD Help

Hi guys!
So i have a problem... I have successfully back-up tested a SL DVD - House of the dead 2 & 3 - i ripped it using rawdump 2.0, and used wiibrickblock to remove any possible updates. Burned it on to a standard RITEK SL (single layer) dvd - plays with no flaws.
So i know my overall process works....
So i went to Super smash bros brawl... ripped it using friidump040-w32 as such:
friidump -d g: -a
this ripped the iso no problem. I then patched it once again using wiibrickblocker v1.3r2. patched ok
img size: 8,511,160,320 checked out ok.
Using my same burn method... imgburn (same as before)... only this time i set the layer break as stated on numerous forums first:
Layer Break->User specified and type 2084960
i then burn my image on a singapore verbatim DL DVD+R Disc at 2.4x
I put the dvd in... it is recognized as SSBB... great!
I start the game... stalls during the opening video... dirty disc.
i skip the video... goes to load the menu... white screen... loading... "Dirty disc...eject it and blah blah blah".
So my first question is... what am i doing wrong? I thought this disc was the best DL disc to be used... at least it is for the 360... so am i doing something wrong along the line of backing up, or does the wii just not like verbatims? if not, what type of DL disc is good for the wii?? i mean, if it reads crappy ritek SL dvd-R's, why not verbatim DL dvd+r's ?
my second question is... how do i know if a game is a SL or DL? is there some indication i can use to tell if a game is in fact a DL? I see no indication otherwise, so i have no idea how you guys determine games such as SSBB is DL (I know it is, but i'm thinking in the future when i get a game... how can i tell unless i do a google search?)

I've been searching around for this, but i cant seem to find anything that counters my problem... perhaps i'm using media that my wii doesn't like?

Does the original ssbb work? There is a page dedicated to ssbb playback problems on Nintendo's website, one of the problems is the dirty disc error you mentioned. There are a few consoles that may have trouble playing the original game. For troubleshooting check their Wii main page, I don't have the link handy at the moment.

Dont have the disk on hand at the moment unfortunately. I did read off the super sticky sticky that the dude who made the guide had the same problem with verbatims, so he tried memorex and it worked fine. I'm about to attempt the same thing... $25 for 25 discs... it had better work =)
Each failed attempt is another dollar lost...

ok... so the memorex discs came... DL +R media... burned SSBB and this time the disc didn't even get recognized (at least the verbatim discs were recognized and loaded... just crashed during/after the start up video).
After reading the super sticky, i'm not sure where to go next...
Is my only possibility of backing up DL discs to adjust the laser sensitivity inside the unit?? I have read threads that have warned that this is a bad idea... and that it shouldn't be attempted as i can either cause my wii to not read anything, or can cause the laser to wear out sooner...
Suggestions please?

i have the same problem. Thing is my ssbb use to work now it always gets the fing error. No one seems to know how to fix this

Have you tried to booktype the DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM?
Don't know if it will make difference but if you haven't and your burner supports it then wouldn't hurt to try. Booktyping is supposed to make it more compatible.

Your burner has to support it.
You click on the small book icon in the lower right hand corner. If you hover over it says change booktype.
After you click on it another window comes up with burner brand tabs. Choose the tab of your burner if it is listed.
Then under change for: choose DVD+R DL
Under new setting: choose DVD-ROM

have you tired reburning it?
How long have you had it?
Are there any scratches on the disc?
What type of media are you using?
If you used cheap media and have had the backup for a while there is always a possibility of it degrading enough to bring up the read errors.

How long have you had it?a few months played it maybe 4-5 times because i played mario galaxy more
Are there any scratches on the disc? no
What type of media are you using? verbertaim i think thats how you spell it

You don't need a specific drive to rip a backup copy of the game.
It might be bad enough to where the Wii has issues reading the backup but your DVD drive might be able to rip it so you can reburn on different media.
Try ripping the backup with ImgBurn (Read Mode).
Then re-burn it to new media and see if that works.

my wii plays all my other backups perfectly. Your telling me i can put in the back up copy of ssbb in any copy and image burn will read the backup fine?
I thought this was not possible that you needed a special dvd drive to read wii games

You need a specific drive if you want to rip original games. This is not the case for games that are backups. Backup games can be riped normally as an ISO then reburned without the specific drive.
Again I suggest trying to rip the SSBB backup using ImgBurn read mode. Then reburn it again. Make sure you set the layer break and booktype the DVD+R DL media to DVD-ROM.

Well, i found i have a LG drive which does not support booktype, at least i assume...
I open imgburn, click booktype, click the LG drive tab, and select DVD+R DL media... and it sais "failed yada yada" in the screen almost instantly. It seems odd that it does not consult the drive or anything... just brings up a failed message. Does this mean that my drive does not support it, or am i doing something wrong?

this sucks i tried to make a back of my backup using image burn (read) and it failed around 60%. Is there another way I can make a backup of my backup?
