Hey all. I have done the xclamp fix and had to restrengthen the screw 3 times because the fix can last 2- 7 months if that. Is there anywhere I can take my 360 for a permanent fix?

Also my little brother wants to buy one but i told him dont bother. Has micro$oft finally released a version of the 360 the doesnt give the rrod?

The only permanent fix is to send it in to MS. Other than that, it's a crap shoot as to how long an x clamp fix will last.

The new 360s (Jasper) with the 65nm cpu/gpu are on store shelves. Use the link in my sig to find the one you want.

Really there will never be a 360 console that never rrods. I mean you can drastically decrease the chances by keeping the console a lot cooler (making the tempature cycle less extreme), but there will never be a fix unless you replace the solder.

A lot of people know this but don't know the full story of the 360. Everyone knows the reason the rrod happens is because of the lead free solder. What people don't know is that lead free solder is more prone to cooling as a dry solder point. The reason microsoft used lead free solder is because in 2006(US) they passed a law that limits lead solder in electronics. This is to limit lead exposure to developing children. Just like they did with paint containing lead.

I know for some this could be information overload, but understanding the problem is always the most important step in troubleshooting.

So if you want a reliable 360 keep the console cool, or you can wait it out until we find another formula for a better lead free solder.

Nice post C4RN1.....Thumpy depending on how bad the BGU break is sometimes the RROD will keep coming back unless you find a solder reflow station to allow the GPU solder joints to reflow.. Like C4RN1 just mentioned about the lead free solder, that was a big mistake by M-soft along with several other cooling flaws..

I don't care what version you have they all will get the RROD, i have done about 4 RROD fixes on Elites that weren't all that old, i don't remember the manufactures date..
