Hi. i am new to this Wii and just bought one today. i was wondering if WiiKey is the only answer and if it is the best mod chip there aswel as can the wii be customed firmwared like the PSP or the XBOX 360? Are there any solderless chips? Thanks in advance.
Hello and congrats on the purchase, first off read the READ THIS FIRST thread. It will answer alot! As for a wiikey it depends on the chip set. different wii chipsets take different chips, there is a solderless chip called the wiiclip, but the chip has to be soldered to it or buy one presoldered.
thanks. i am new to wii but not new to the forums or afterdawn. and i have read the rules. i looked at a website where u have to enter ur serial number to find out about ur chipset but its not in their database. so i cant really find out about the chipset unless theres an alternative that you guys can help with. thanks in advance.
Open the case and look. If you don't have the tri-wing you will need it to install the modchip anyway.
AFAIK, all WiiS/N are in the SN tracker unless it's very, very, old or very, very, new, in which case you can have an educated guess at the chipset by the vintage.
The Wii architecture is different from the PSP and XBOX 360. Right now, today, modchips are the most proven and reliable solution for modding.
There are adapters which facilitate no soldering to the Wii, but there are no "solderless chips".
