I have a Sony DRW-U10a. I can write data files to all DVD formats. However, writing a DVD-Movie fails, and always at the same point and within a second or two of starting the write process.
In Pinnacle Instant Copy it fails with a 'No Sense Information'
In Nero 5.5 it fails with a device reset error.
Roxio Standard 6.0 doesn't have the option to write a DVD-Movie. But works for all other DVD writing.
I use DVDDecrypter to rip the disk. I then use either DVDShrink or InstantCopy 7. All software is on latest patches/versions, except for using Nero 5.5.
I haven't run Roxio and Nero at the same time. I have uninstalled either to run the other. Also I have done a factory restore on the laptops.
I have upgraded the firmware on the player from 1.1c to 1.1d, which then allowed me to change the player to a DRU-500A and then onto 2.0h firmware.
This was all working well on my desktop until I moved the writer into an external USB 2.0 case.
I have 2 laptops, one of which only has USB 1.1 and this works fine with buning DVD-Rs albeit very slowly. As far as I understood it, USB 1.1 shouldn't be fast enough to write a DVD. But it does work.
My other laptop has USB 2.0 and works with DVD-RW and DVD+RW with no problems. If I use DVD-R it fails.
The DVD-R disks are coded Ritek. They are Datasafe DVDs. The DVD+RWs are Princo and were cheapo PC Line disks from PC World.
The laptop with USB 2.0 is a 2.8ghz P4 and is very fast with the encoding side of things, so I would prefer to run entirely on this.
I've seen recommendations to use Firewire instead of USB 2.0. Is this the case?
This is confusing and I've wasted loads of DVD-Rs.
Please help someone
