burning slow! ...help please...

Im currently using Nero 7 ultra edition, When i go to burn a DVD it takes about an 1hr 30min to 2hrs sometimes! is this normal, i dont think so.
all my dvd's are 700mb's. Im burning with a plextor px-755a
any help??

Have you gone via Device Manager, and checked on Properties of the Primary IDE Channel to ensure.that the transfer mode is set to 'DMA if available'?
If it's set to PIO mode, that can really slow things down.

Are you sure you aren't encoding the movies and counting this in the burn time. Are you using NeroVision for "burning"?
EDIT:
You can use the following VBS script to reset your DMA mode in windows.
Be warned that this COULD damage your computer and therefore you use it at your own risk.

Instructions:
1. Despite any warnings click on the [Open] or [Execute] buttons as required to execute the file resetdma.vbs.
2. If the program found any ATA channel to reset, reboot your computer and test all drives.
3. If the problem is still not solved, set the offending channel to PIO manually, reboot your computer, set the channel back to DMA, and reboot again.

i go to nero startsmart- then to DVD- then to photo/video- then down to "make your own dvd video" then it takes me to a screen i add the video files and hit burn.
i think it might be encoding it. do you have to do that?

Yes, you have to encode your avi to get a dvd complaint file. That is what is taking 1-2 hours, not the burning.

ok so there is no way around that.
i have magic music maker and i use the burner that is on that program and it burns a dvd in like 5 minutes, but it only plays on like 1 out of 3 dvd players.

ok so i dl'ed IMGBURN and burned a movie, stuck it in the dvd player and it ejected and said UNKNOWN DISC... wtf...

Some stand alone players support avi/xvid/divx playback and the movies won't need to be encoded before you burn them. That is why the other program you mentioned works on some of your players and not on others. The safe bet is to always encode your movie to a DVD complaint format and you shouldn't have to worry about the result working in your DVD player.

ahhh i see, thank you.
so on IMGBURN it does not encode them? cause i tried burning with that program and it wouldnt play on 1 out 2 dvd players.

This isn't an Imgburn problem. Imgburn doesn't do anything to your files except burn them.
