So, one question I have is, how legal is it to sell a 360 with the hacked ixtreme firmware? Obviously it wouldn't be sold with any games, it would be just the console itself with the modified firmware.
For example, if I were to post a craigslist ad, could I in anyway get into trouble by selling that? I know it's done, but I don't know the legal ramifications about it. Anyone with advice or knowledge about that?
how do people really get around this then when they post on craigslist? Or, I assume, is it that they just don't care and hope that no one really catches them doing it?
I don't think anybody cares about craigslist. You have as much chance of getting ripped off with some lump of junk as you have of getting what you paid for by all accounts.
It's pot luck really. Personally I wouldn't risk it.. I look at the sheer number of "usual sources" disks and files here and think.. "hmmm.. how long would I get or how much would I have to pay if they came through my door just for trying to sell an illegal item" It's probably better to sell it to somebody you know.. for cash.. plausible denyability I think it's called... or some such.. Nixon/Reagan styleee XD
Online selling of illegal hardware and software is normally how you come to the attention of the authorities in the first instance... then if they decide you could be a juicy catch they come for you.
Just because I won't do it doesn't mean others can't.. make your own mind up but remember.. if the thought police stop by and bust you for your 200 games, 5000 burned dvd's and 3 billion mp3's then they probably got your address off craigslist ;)
Man, well that sucks then. I didn't completly realize about the whole anti-circumvention clause within the dmca, and I guess how that definitely applies here. I was going to put up some extra consoles that I have flashed up on craigslist, but based off of recommendations from here, I won't be anymore.
yeah, same reason why gamestop and what not will not purchase/trade any consoles that have been modified. but yeah, your best bet would be trying to sell it to someone you know, or unmod it and sell it.
Considering that prostitutes advertise on craigslist I highly doubt that someone selling a modded system on there is going to raise too many eyebrows. Just my opinion but I see modded systems and modding services all the time on there.
