Have a bricked PSP, was never modded, firmware was never touched. Was my grandson's who I bought for in 2005. It sat in a drawer for 2 yrs. It's bricked, green lite only for 10 seconds. Anyway I got this Datel Tool battery, and a 2gb MS. I have tried for 4 hrs last nite to convert this to a magic memory stick. I don't have another psp to work with. I even took my 24" dell monitor - has card reader on the side- and hooked it up to an xp pc. I have vista. no luck. the most I got was the green lite, and 2 lites on the left to light up, but screen stayed black. The psp isn't recognized by any pc vista or xp via usb cable. I tried newbiinstaller, but when I click start, my anti virus screams at me that there is a virus. 3 times. I even tried one site (green page) with 2 pgms to d/l, and when I tried to copy files to the MS, said something about redundancy. I formated the MS on xp with mspformat.exe, and it worked cuz when I tried another site it said no need for psuedo formatting at dos. Anyone out there who can help with making this a magic memory stick using a card reader, not a psp.

Use this guide HERE.

Use the Card Reader when creating the MMS. If your anti-virus warns of a virus then turn off your Anti-Virus so you can complete the creation of the MMS. It is safe to run the Easy installer it is just a false hit as a virus.

I used the guide as you posted, when i got to the end, i got a bunch of i/o errors, but it continued, and finished. Then I dragged the two folders over to the memory stick, and it asked me to format the stick, which in vista i can't.....

You can go to theme then color and change the background color. Yes 3.71 M33-2 is perfectly fine.

Also if you don't mind:
There is an update version 4 something, should I d/l that?
Ok, I'm a little lost with psp firmware. It now has 3.71 MM3..is that all I need?...Should I update that?....I'm a little lost when it comes to that, I have a pc mindset, that you install firmware if you need it.

If you used the guide I linked to above you can install the latest custom firmware which is 4.01 M33-2.

All you need to do is run the MUX program and select 4.01 M33 in the list. Wait till the Memory Stick Light stops flashing then exit the program. Now in the Game Memory Stick list there is the 4.01 M33 update for you to run.

After that is finished start MUX again and this time choose 4.01 M33-2 following the above steps to update to the latest 4.01 M33-2 Custom Firmware.

Ok, that could work, but one more question...I keep reading about 1.50 kernel....is that necessary, and what is it?

Ok,
Did a little research, and over at PSP ModCRazy, they said, that it isn't necessary. It's for older stuff, not necessary for 3.71 etc...
thanks tho
