I've tried DVDFlick, Avi2Dvd to convert both .mov and mpeg4 files to dvd and the result is always out of sync. I also tried a trial copy of AnyVideoConverter but they didn't allow enough time to judge whether or not the sync was good. What am I doing wrong???

You can try QuEnc. It's a free modification of ffmpeg
converter. See a guide for it, but basically you need
AviSynth. For the trial you can make a 2 line script say
MyMovie.avs with these lines:
DirectShowSource("MyMovie.ext")
LanczosResize(720,480)

Load that .avs file into QuEnc instead of the video
file. If you can play the file on your system using
DirectShow then you can probably feed it into a converter.

See docs for DirectShow, AviSynth, QuEnc.

Or you can try FAVC 1.07 also free. It does the same
stuff but in a more sophisticated way.

First thing to do is set up DirectShow on your system
if you don't have it already. There are guides on this
site how to download and configure it.

Am afraid Xilisoft and similar programs are favourites of spammers.
I personally use both free and paid software, but Xilisoft and their ilk will never be let near any of my machines..

..because it's true. I'm not of course labelling you as a spammer, just that Xilisoft (among others) is spammed here endlessly (by spammers i mean).

No, there's nothing wrong with you regulars posting about software you use, whether it's paid, shareware or free. I'm talking about the endless spammers we have here, (due to the fact this is a very well known site) who luckily don't last here very long before being banned and their spam being hidden from view.
Xilisoft is the one that springs to my mind first, though there are (far too) many companies out there who churn out substandard/copycat software. For all i know Xilisoft may actually make decent software, i don't know, but what i do know is that i wouldn't trust it purely because half the known planet come here over and over to spam us with adverts detailing their 'products', which is enough to make me be wary of it.

Did not know about that; but I can say I've used the program for over a year and have not had any problems with it. I tried DVD flick, and I didnt have enough time to keep coming here for solutuins to the problem, the little one keeps me busy.

No problem at all, if it works for you that's great, and i wouldn't dismiss your own experience with it purely because we get spammed with it here. In fact i'd just posted on a few programs i use here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/713090/4336499
