Does anyone know how to turn ripped dvd to mpeg2

I need to take a cut from a movie and use it as a mpeg-2 file. I don't know how to convert the ripped files to mpeg, anyone know if this can be done?

This is not for sale but just for showing at home.

After thinking about it:

I could burn back to dvd then play it on my dvd player while recording it to my dv video cam. Then I can capture it using Studio 8 then render to mpeg2.

Anyone know of a better way than burning back to dvd?

1st use tmpge's dvd author to edit out the clip you want from the ripped dvd vobs...it'll save time that way and create a much smaller dvd....use DVD2SVCD. you're given the option to convert to SVCD, CVD, dvd, or VCD.
