Ok you probably get this all the time but ive been online looking to do this from 7 o'clock in the morning. some one told me that i can d/l free games for my psp and be able to play them. my son has a psp and we have wireless internet so i figured i'd check it out. i really really wanna do this but im getting confused. i'm not sure if i have a psp slim or fat, i think its slim cuz my battery is 3.6 1200mAh. so i assumed it was a slim and what im getting is that i can't do the firmware thing unless i get a fat battery right? also my system is 4.05, is that also why i cant do it. i followed the guide on creating pandoras battery but when i whent to open the game it said it couldnt open it. if any one could at least answer some of my question it would be greatly appreciated. thanx for ur time

Well, first of all. A PSP slim would be PSP-2000 and the PSP phat would be PSP-1000/1001. On the top edge of the PSP phat, you can see a row of holes, kinda like holes for speakers type. Assuming that the face plate has not been changed, the 'Power' word on the PSP phat would be in green. The other distinct feature of the PSP phat is the connector for the AC/DC adapter. The PSP phat will have 2 metal contacts beneath the power connector, the PSP slim does not.

I've used this guide http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/610313 to create the magic MS and install the CFW and this guide http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/616311 to update from CFW 3.71 M33 to 4.01 M33-2. Both guides worked if you followed them to the 't'.

The issue of whether CFW can be installed on a PSP slim depends on the version of the motherboard the PSP slim has. Unfortunately, there is no way to identify the version unless the PSP is taken apart. Most people will suggest to just try using the Pandora battery on the PSP slim. If it works, then you can install CFW on the PSP slim. If not, then you'll have to hang in there and wait for a new CFW that will allow you to do that.

Pandora battery is used to install CFW, not to run any games. The Pandora battery that I have is a PSP phat battery. I've used to to install CFW on both my slim and phat PSP, so it works.

Read through the guides and gather all the tools needed before trying to jump into it.

for pandoras read this guide (if you havnt already http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/610313

pandoras battery can only be made on a psp with custom firmware or if you hardmod the battery (which i dont suggest doing)

if you dont know anyone with cfw then i would suggest investing in a datel tool battery which is a ready made pandoras batter

hope that helps
lol i left it on make post so i was a bit late lol o well

read what i put about the pandoras battery it will hopeful make a bit more sense ( you will use your psp as it has ofw not cfw) (ofw being sonys offical firmware)

correct all you need is your slim a 256mb - 2gb memory card and a pandora battery and your ready to start

you will need to use the guide to make the magic memory stick

if you are on vista you will need to use another way (psp grader is good for vista)
