Macbook connected to HD tv ?

Hi,

I'm finally thinking about buying an HD tv, probably a Samsung. Could I connect my Macbook and play back videos from my hard disk eg xvid or even bluray. What cables woud I need? Is this a good idea ? Is the mac HDCP compliant (i just read about this).

Or should I go for one of those multimedia hards disks but not many are mac compatible.
