For a long time I have successfully used Verbatim DVD+R Printable 16x disks for recording TV programs and for general backup storage. Previously the disks always had a small Verbatim logo and a "DVD+R 16x" legend near the hole. However, the latest batch that I have just received from Amazon have no markings at all on them. I would not be particularly concerned except that, by chance, I came across a message claiming that these unmarked disks are markedly inferior to the marked ones (something about a change of manufacturer). Obviously I will find out when I try to use them, but does anyone know whether there is a difference between the old marked and the new unmarked disks?

You could us a little app available here at AD, called DVD Identifier. (it's a freebie)

Pop in the previous verb and check, then run the new verb. What did you come up with?

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply. I've done as you suggested and both types of disk give the same result: Manufacturer - Mitsubishi Chemical Corp; Manufacturer ID - MCC; Media Type - 004.

Out of interest, can I take this to mean that Verbatim do not actually manufacture the disks that they sell under their name?

Most "named" brands out-source their work...herein lies the problem. Cheap manufacturing processes and materials, all make our little worlds all the more interesting....lol

I'll give you a small instance.. here in Australia a leading supply chain advertised Verbatim DVD-R 16X 50 spindle packs for $AUD10.00 ...and all concerned made a profit, but at 20cents each disc..you know what comes next lol. Poorly manufactured discs that give me the heebies when I need to use 'em. Got more than my fair share of coasters, until I made the usual adjustments etc.

So in essence, the answer is yes. :)

Cheers.
