Okay, So I bought my ps2 premodded back around 2001. This is probably even before I had even heard of dual layer dvds. So its likely that the modchip installed (which I have no Idea which it is) doesnt support dvd9.
Fast forward to yesterday. I had just bought Yakuza2, I think it would be my first dual layer game. And to be honest, My first legit ps2 game.
I shove it in and It does not work, each time it gives me the "browser/options" menu.
After a brief search I've lead myself to believe it is indeed because of the old modchip.
Just want a confirmation, that an old modchip can indeed prevent a ps2 from playing legitamate dual layer games?
Are there other likely possibilities? Anything I can do to make it work?
Maybe the I need to burn a patched image of the game? But if it is indeed the chip im not sure that would help.
Thanks ahead of time.
Cheers,
Oshi
Edit: I notice now that this thread is probably more suitable in the ps2 hardware boot forum, Sorry, move it if you can please.
If you can find out which modchip you are using it would help a lot, but the easy way out would be getting a blank DVD9, ripping the game to your
HDD and applying DVD9 patch from Toxic I think it will work with any modchip, but I'm not 100% sure.
Well, I opened it up, but I didnt see anything useful before feeling like I might break something if i went any further.
Also I just noticed something, the region of my ps2 seems to be NTSC J (I bought it in Indonesia), and I this version Yakuza 2 I bought here in Australia would be PAL.
I never had any region problems so far though, and I always figured the chip would handle that.
Well a proper modchip should handle the region difference, also I've heard some early model PS2 had trouble or were not at all capable of reading DVD9 so the only real option I see is to rip the disc and patch it and burn it. This patch was made to make GT4 which is a DVD9 game playable from a DVD9, rather than breaking it down to two discs. If you're interested I can provide you with a guide about making quality game backups and a link to the patch.
Just tried ripping my game and patching it with the toxic patcher and burning it to dvd-r dl (I have booted other backups on dvd-r single layer succesfully). But still no luck :(
Is there an easy way to split the image into two single layer dvds?
Edit: scratch that, it worked after much reseting. woo!
