Just picked up a 360 and halo 3 :) I played halo 2 forever on my original xbox until I soft modded and turned it into a media center.
Ive been doing a little research and reading into the 360 and im a bit curious about the modding scene. A few questions feel free to answer any or all, if my question violates the TOS for the forum just delete the questions mods rather then the thread.
Games can be burnt, obviously, do you need to have a modded box to play them?
Speaking of modded boxes, how is that working these days, are we forced to chip or is there anything comparable to a soft mod (that works!)?
XBL DLC costs a bum ass fortune that I as a gamer do not have, I have a wii and was lucky enough to use the twilight princess exploit to supply myself with 100's of free virtual console titles from nintendo free of charge (that I of course already purchased), has anything like this happened on 360 yet? If not why not?
Halo apparently makes you pay for map packs now (legendarypack) and after dropping 160 bucks just to play the damn game online I dont want to spend 10 more to ACTUALLY play it, any advice on this one?
no i doubt they would want you playing backups on the XBOX... therefore we have modding. .. . .
the state of modding as i see it... its all cake if you have a 360 without a liteon drive... just a matter of flashing the drive via software... no modchip or anything involved...
if you have a liteon drive... things are much tougher... a normal individual can't do it... need to send it to someone with the proper hardware hack for it. even then it requires another drive... so $$$ investment just to get it modded
Is there any particular reason that there is virtually no homebrew apps available on the 360 like there are on the original?
I've read a few notes about improved security and would assume that it's a bios issue, again not real sure about it.
It just seems like it stopped at being able to play burned backups while all I ever see is Wii this and Wii that.
Sigh.
from what i understand you are right copperkid it is a security issue, the kernal is very tought and when they do auto updates it messes things up. if you have the orig kernal you can do something. but if you have updated once in 3 years then dont expect anything fun. i am looking at getting a wii for the wife soon, guess i'll have to see what all i can do with it. any one here experienced in that area?
