Help-Cannot Restore Files - Backitup 4

Hello everyone.

This is my first post and I am in a somewhat of a desparate situation. Isn't that usually the way? Necessity breeds participation?

Anyway, I needed to a complete re-install of windows and a friend suggested that I use Nero to back up my files. More than 120 gigs. I downloaded, installed and ran Backitup 4 and saved the files to a separate HD as I do not have a dvd burner and burning to cd would take both a lot of discs and time. Everything seemed to go ok and the backed up files were saved.

After re-installing windows I went to restore the files and ran into problems. I realized that I had backed up the Backitup 4 software along with everything else so I went and downloaded another copy. I figured out that I needed to create a disc of some sort and after restarting my system with the disc in the tray it booted the program from the disc.

I located the file folders and tried to restore them. I tried the folder itself, and individual files with no luck. I kept getting a message that I was supposed to try the last file. I tried that as well and no go.

I have contacted Nero support but seeing as it is the weekend I suspect that I may not here back from them until at least Monday. I am getting desparate and panic is starting to set in. These files are very important to me as I am venturing into the internet marketing field and they are all business related.

I sure hope that someone here can help.

I'm UN-certain of the exact answer to your Nero problem .As I have always used Nero Back up for folder back ups , and I then use Acronis True Image 10 for complete drive back ups.
For the Nero back up, the help section does say that for a full restore, you need to start with the oldest file . Look in ......

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Ahead\Nero BackItUp . Search for files with either a .nbi or .nco file extension .

One of those files should be the one to start your restore with.
I wish I could give you more helpful info, but I haven't used Nero back it up for years.

Thanks for your reply Larry. I searched where you suggested and could not find anything similar to the file extensions you mentioned. I think the problem is because I backed up my docs and sets with nero as well as the software itself and then I formatted the HD. Those files you mentioned are probably in the back ups. I will have to rely on the Nero support service to help. Thanks again for your help and God Bless.
