I recently updated to 2.50 and found that my videos will skip occasionally for 2-3 seconds randomly. I haven't touched any of the settings yet to see if anything changed but was wondering if this happened for anyone else.

I have an 80gb PS3 (MGS4 bundle), running windows XP SP3, and using WMP11 to stream everything to my PS3 (I think Tversity lowers the quality on a lot of the things on my TV so I don't want to use it)

Maybe, maybe not, but you could try waiting a bit longer than... 5 hours and... 13 minutes for a reply.

As for me, I haven't updated yet, but what I've heard is that there's going to be a sort of... "auto-chaptering" function for all your video files, so it might be messing with your videos that way.

I had a similar thing today. I updated my PS3 yesterday, and today I was watching a movie [from HDD] and suddenly a black screen appeared for a fracture of second three times during the movie. I thought it was a bad encoding, but when I rewinded to the same part, it didn't happen again.

Try this:

You can now use the [Mosquito Noise Reduction] setting for video content that is saved on the hard disk or storage media. Use this setting to reduce mosquito noise that appears on the edges of visual images.

It's says it designed for the edges but maybe it'll help with that black screen as well it you turn it on...

Mosquito noise is more for little patches of pixels gone crazy, like a strange blurring effect or sometimes wrong colours. Not really for frame skipping. But every little bit helps.

my problem comes from streaming things, I like to stream everything from my PC since utorrent automatically downloads all the shows I watch so my PS3 has turned into a kind of DVR.

When copying the show over to my PS3 it plays perfectly but..that takes a couple of minutes depending on the size/length of the video file. Streaming only takes a couple seconds of loading.

You could possibly try a different program like nero media home or something similar.
