the only 2 dvd-r brands that works on this chip is ATI dvd-rx8
and TRAXDATA dvd-rx4, anyone knows if theres any other brands, that works on the messiah 2 and what kind of speed should i buy.
anyone also knows who sell ATI DVD-RX8, or TRAXDATA dvd-rx4.

Getting hold of good brand dvd blanks at 8X speed are getting harder to find. They have all seemed to have shifted to 16X speed. I mention this as it would be handy to know what burner you have (assuming you backup your own games) including model number. Coz if you still have stocks of "those other brands" left over, it might well be worth trying to booktype a DVD+R. Hopefully your drive will support that feature.
Traxdata made by and distributed by Ritek Aparently
Ati discs...well I couln't find too much on them at all.
In both instances however, most "reviews" are negative in their content.
Why these two brands work best with that chip is a mystery. If you haven't already, try Verbatim (8X might be difficult to get) but TDK's should still be available here and there. Depending where you are, google stockists relative to your area.
EDIT: Hey and thanks to blivet for picking up on the DVD-R when it should have been DVD+R. Cheers. :)

My apologies ganni666, I think I may have confused the issue.
What I am saying is that TDK's are better than your current discs. TDK's are available still in the 8X speed. The brand TDK does not enjoy a good reputation here at AfterDawn. It is therefore only my opinion that you should use these, and use them only when better media is not available.
If you are doing the burning, then please slow the burn speed of any media you use, to a max of 4x as a general guide.
The messiah chip is a devise that fools the ps2..do you agree?
The chip should not and most likely is not programmed to look for certain media types and speeds. It's a fluke so far that it can read such bad media at all.
As for changing from 16x to 8x.. well... we are not talking about altering speeds here, we are talking about changing the actual structure of the discs. This cannot be done.
AS yet we have no idea of what burner is used and at what speeds the discs are burnt at. We have no idea what other media types you have used. To help out fully, please post back with more details.
Cheers.

so im using BENQ DVD-R x16 i have a pioneer dvr111d dvd writer
im using Alcahol 120% also used dvd decrypter and imageburner
i always write the game at a lower speed, about x4 or x1 or x2
but when i put the disk in my playstation 2 it gives me an error reading, and only the ATI dvd-r x8 works good on my ps2 and Traxdata x4. Can i work this problem by booktype, i don't know how, what exactly is booktype??
thanks

Click on the word booktyping in this post or your previous post. There's some interesting stuff there to consider.

If you can try using another burner. Out of all of my computers I can only use 1 for backing up our PS2 games. This computer has an old Sony burner that I bought at CompUSA on sale for something like $10. And for us, Verbs are the only ones that will work 100% of the time. As for the Messiah 2 chip... This shouldn't impact the drive of the PS2.

Quote: it might well be worth trying to booktype a dvd-r. Hopefully your drive will support that feature.
Unfortunately you can't booktype a DVD-R disk, only DVD+R can be booktyped.
IMGBurn is the best DVD burning program out there, and it is free.
www.imgburn.com
Taiyo Yuden makes some of the best DVD Media,
http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yud...value-line.html
8X speed available here for about 29˘ per disk. Here they say 8X, but also mention further down that they may be 16X.
Looking for a new DVD burner? Try www.newegg.com I've bought several from here and they have worked well. Watch for their daily specials and free shipping offers. I hope this helps you in your search.
Try burning the disks as slow as possible for PS-2 games, 4X seems to be the accepted norm, but I don't burn games, just listen to a couple of employees of mine who do so. They have had great luck with the Taiyo Yuden disks, but haven't used your type of chip. They seem to think that the make of the chip doesn't matter, it is probably your DVD burner or burning strategy which does matter.

Firmware is kinda like instructions for your burner how to burn different types of media, newer media requires newer instructions to burn properly.
here is the complete listing of all the firmware I could find for your drive.
http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware...px?DriveId=1300
Another option I thought of, look in your bargain stores, like Big Lots, some department stores, look for older Sony 8X media which is made in Japan, or older 8X or even 4X Verbatim media. This will be like looking for a needle in a haystack I know, but another possibility.
