I have been using the HD Advance 3.0 for some time as well as the Swap Disk 3.2 CD/2.0 DVD. I also have been using the PS2 40G HDD. Lastly, I have an iMac G4 and a "fat" PS2 (version 9).
Well, my friend Razma has been helping me put things onto the HDD from his PC, but I figure that I should be a "big-girl" now and do it myself, but, as I mentioned, I have a Mac.
So I did some searching and found XDUMB, but I cannot seem to find any information on the best way to use it to transfer ISOs from my G4 to my PS2 HDD. I have my ethernet hooked up, but cannot get it to recognize the HDD.
Then again, I'm not sure if there's another (better) way to transfer files from my Mac to the HDD.
I have searched the forum and Google for similar problems, but cannot find any that help.
Can anyone point me in a general direction or give advice?
Kakyouin....
still need help? After many sleepless nights and wondering if i can really get an FTP connection, i saw your posting and from there got XDUMB.
Well, i have it working perfectly on my new Macbook..
This is what i did and the software i did it with......
The Basics...
Unmodded PS2/ magic memory card/160GB HDD in my PS2 Networking...
On PS2 i used HDLD_SVR-0.8.5 and on the Mac XDumb.
An ethernet cable DIRECT from PS2 to MAC. (despite what people have said i tried a crossover and a regular ethernet cable and THEY BOTH WORKED FINE)
A few things which may be important....
I installed HDLD_SVR-0.8.5 onto my magic memory card and booted it from Free MCBOOT.
I also tried to get XDUMP 1.0 to read the connected drive and it wouldn't- i then went back to 0.9.9 and while getting an annoying applescript message it did read the PS2 HDD!!
Then i went back to version 1 and it now works!!! I also tried 0.9.8 and that worked (that could or could not have made a difference in the final outcome)
ONE MORE THING....before doing any of that i also managed to get my OSX finder to mount my ftp address of the PS2 by going to connect server ftp://192.etc...
This would mount the drive and show 3 folders HDD/MC/PFS. However the mac wouldn't recognise anything in the folders and kept disconnecting.
AND ANOTHER THING!!!---something that confused me was when people said to edit a certain CONFIG file. I can only presume that's for problems with a router because i didn't change anything like that and all my default stuff just worked.
Hope this is helpful- i owed you one for the link to XDUMP!
SOLIDARITY FOR MAC USERS WITH PS2 Consoles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much kakyouin for asking the question, and jazzboy for answering it!!
I had to do a lot of reasearch before I ended up here! Everyone seems to be trying to connect (or shoudl I say MONITOR) their Ps2 to their Mac, but no one talks about the ps2 hdd+network adapter + Mac!
Next week I'll get my hdd and follow your suggestion step by step!!
Really guys, thanks a lot for all these precious informations!
Quote:I installed HDLD_SVR-0.8.5 onto my magic memory card and booted it from Free MCBOOT.
I did the exact same thing and on the screen here's what I see:
hdld.svr-0.8.5
**********
use one of the following locations to set IP address :
MC0: /BIDATA-SYSTEM/IPCONFIG.DAT
MC0: /BADATA-SYSTEM/IPCONFIG.DAT
MC0: /BEDATA-SYSTEM/IPCONFIG.DAT
MC0: /SYS-CONF/IPCONFIG.DAT
Playstation 2 IP address : 192.168.0.10
Ready
So I run Xdumb and try to connect using that exact same ip address (192.168.0.10) but I get a "Fail to connect, check your settings" error message.
First here's a list of everything I use in order to transfer .iso games from my computer to my HDD :
- a memory card
- a compatible HDD
- a ps2 network adapter
- Free McBoot
- uLaunchelf.ELF
- HDLoader
- hdld.svr-0.8.5.ELF (that's the server)
- an Ethernet cable
- XDumb 0.9.9 (get XDumb 1.0 if you're running Mac Os 10.5) it's right here : http://xdumb.free.fr/blog/?page_id=3
Here is the exact procedure if you're a Mac Os 10.4 user! :
- Firtst thing, you will need to have Free McBoot installed on your memory card
- Also install the "hdld.svr-0.8.5" ELF file to your memory card
- Connect your Ps2 network adapter to your Mac using a conventional Ethernet cable
Now, on your Mac...
- Click the apple logo on the top left corner of your screen and select "System preferences"
- Select "Network"
- Where is says "Show", chose "Build-in Ethernet"
- Look under the first tab called "TCP/IP" you'll see "Configure IPv4", the default setting is probably set to "Using DHCP", click on it, and select "Manually" instead
- Next to "IP address", put "192.168.0.1" and leave the "subnet mask" to 255.255.255.0
- Click on "Apply" on the bottom in that window
Now back to the Ps2...
- Use Free MCboot to launch "uLaunchelf"
- Browse to the hdld server
- It will display a black screen and couple of information, and when "Ready" appears, you are ready to start copying your games from your computer to your hard drive!
Now on your Mac...
- Launch Xdumb, set ip address to "192.168.0.10" and click on "connect"
That's it! Xdumb is pretty easy to use so simply look at the options it gives you! You also might want to check the "game's compatibility list" before you go ahead and start transfering files. It will tell you the "modes" you need to activate in Xdumb. The list is right here : http://list.sksapps.com/index.php?page=indexa.html
Once the transfer is complete reboot your Ps2, run FreeMCBoot and launch HDLoader, select your game and play!
**** A lot of people are talking about IPCONFIG.DAT and that file is also mentionned on the black screen in hdld.svr, but honnestly, I still dont know what that file is, I dont have it, and I'm still able to do what I want to do!
