I have used ConvertXdvd and nero 8 and in the beginning they both recorded and then I started getting re-write error when it came to writing and so I thought it was the burner and I sent it back and got a new one. I need some helpful info to fix this problem. Thanks in advance

Nero 8 may be your problem. Nero 8 does not work with shrink, so my thinking goes, it may have issues with convertxdvd also

I also jump from ConvertXtoDVD (CX2D) to Imgburn for burning. CX2D has it's own built in VSO autoburning engine. Have you tried it? Now, I don't want to start that whole "autoburn or not autoburn" debate again. So, all I'm saying is I don't usually autoburn with anything but DVD Shrink. But I have tried autoburning with DVDFab Decrypter Platinum and CX2D (both of which use the VSO burn engine) just for curiousty sake. The result? SUCCESS! YAY! I couldn't detect a difference from the Imgburn output.
But I still don't autoburn as a rule. My rule.

And as long as I'm on that vein, I've also set both ConvertXtoDVD and DVDFab Decrypter to auto encode/transcode to target size DVD 5 and I didn't notice any difference there either. I don't know if DVDFab Decrypter also uses the VSO encoding engine to "shrink", but it works fine.
Yes, I know the difference between "encode" and "transcode".
Sometimes I wonder if I have too many tools in my toolbox.

Quote: Sometimes I wonder if I have too many tools in my toolbox.
It's nice to have an array of useful tools laying around. So, no. :)
Typically, i don't autoburn either. With ConvertXtoDvd i've not used VSO. I have used it with Fab Platinum, and it seems to do a pretty good job. I still prefer to output to ISO and use Imgburn for the final product.
And i've also used DvdFab to transcode a couple of times. More out of curiousity than anything. It also seems to work pretty well. But i take some sort of comfort in my normal process. Typically, if i find something that works, i stick with it.

I just finished posting this comment on a different thread:
"Sometimes when you install video processing or disc burning programs they will automatically install new Windows Services that start automatically and run in the backround perhaps unknown to the user. Go to Administrative Tools > Services. Check the list for services that are related to these apps and change them to "stop/manual" or "disable".
Occasionally one of these "hidden" services will interfere with another video/burning program. I've had this happen to me in the past. If that's not the problem it's an easy job to turn them back on again. Besides, you really don't need them starting up and running automatically anyway." - Peshtigo
That's what I was referring to in my "toolbox" quote.
