New user/first question

What I have :
DEVICES
DVDs
Laptop
External hard drive
TV card player

PROGRAMS
vsoConvertXtoDVD2
DVDFab5090
dvdshrink

What I want :
I want to copy my DVDs to my external hard drive to play on my laptop but more importantly on my TV through my TV card player.

I have looked up alot of threads and they all have bits of what I want but I am working nights at the moment and the brain and tolerance levels are low . I have copied two DVDs but they do not play on my media player . I have some movies stored in .avi format and these work fine .

I am not a techie so I need clear instruction. All help greatly appreciated .

It sounds like the device you are trying to run the copy on doesn't like image files (.iso) which is the standard of the DVD format.

You note that AVI files play ok - perhaps just run your disks through DVD Fab and then create an AVI rather than ISO.

I use 'DVD Max to AVI converter' for this http://www.dvd-converter.com/dvd_to_avi_converter.htm but there are lots of free alternatives which you'll find on Afterdawn in the downloads section.

You can convert dvd to avi using autogk, which is free. The first link in my sig is a tutorial for using it.

You can use Media Player Classic to playback either VIDEO_TS or ISO images without spending the time converting to a substandard file type such as avi.

I am sure that I am just missing it, but how do you get MPC to play an ISO image?
