Please help me. My PSP freezes at the loading screen.
When I upgraded my PSP to 4.01 m33-2, it can read my ISO and CSO games perfectly. It has a perfect condition for 1 week. But when I started my NFS carbon to play, it went on to the loading screen but it freezes. I waited but nothing happened. the LED for the MS stopped blinking when the loading screen freezes. Then, all of my games freez at the loading screen. What should I do? Please help me. BTW, I have a slim PSP.

1. Turn off your PSP fully (by holding the power button)
2. Turn it on again while holding the R button
3. This should bring you to the Recovery Mode
4. Go to Config
5. Click the UMD mode until you reach to NP9660
6. Exit the Recovery Mode
Do not mess with the Recovery mode unless you know what you are doing.

Thank you very much!
But I think I have another problem. The problem with the freezing loading screen is fixed but when I played god of war, the psp suddenly restarted. Can it still be fixed?

I have a similar problem...
My psp is from 2004 and the firmware is 4.01 (but I think it is the original)
When I start up the PSP I come in the menu where I can watch movies (that works), listen to music (that works too) and all the other parts EXCEPT for the gaming part.
First of all: The drive doesn't work, so I can't play UMD-disks.
But demo's should work? So I put a demo on the memory stick. It shows the thumbnail and when I pushed START THE GAME, I saw the usual loading screen from PLAYSTATION and there it stays... FROZEN!
This evening I went for a person who could place a CWF on my psp but he told me he could't do it. Even Turning on + Hold R doesn't work. He could only make the firmware go up to 4.01, before it was 3.80...
Is my PSP broken? I want to play games with it, not using it for a mp3 player of mp4 movie player... If somebody has a sollution for me, please let me know?
This is all what I can tell you about it... Tried almost everything, but now I am really stuck! Help me please?
PS: I am DUTCH, so excuse me of my possible bad language. :-P

I think you have the official firmware. So, it should be able to play demo. Where are you getting the demo ?
Turning on and holding R is only for custom firmware. Did you just got the PSP? What firmware do it came with

I bought it second hand... Maybe that was a mistake, but I've bought another one which has a CWF of firmware 3.71-MM3 but even that can't run demo's but that's not important (I use it know to play GOW which is awesome) :-) haha...
The Second one is to valuable to me, but the first one (of which we are talking about) had the firmware 3.80 (official) and after I came back from that guy it showed 4.01 at system information.
The person from whoem I bought it, bought the PSP in 2007 in the shop...
It's a PSP 2004... Maybe that's the problem... Or it is just broken... I don't know...
Maybe buy a new one? I can afford it, but have three or more PSP in the house is a bit...strange, don't you think?
What are my possibilities?

@vantazzy, where are you downloading the demos? There is two types.
@deception, download UMDGEN 4.00 (use google). Use that to open the game and convert it back to ISO.

Hm, I wanted to buy a new one, but there is now PSP 3000 and that is still a black hole what concerns the custom firmware hacking...
I can try what you said about UMDGEN 4.00 but, I think my PSP is broken. It cannot run any application for the psp, so it must be broken.
Now I use it only as a mp3 player. A bit big, but that's the only thing I can use it. And selling it, that is a waste... I can start a psp collection, but having a lot of psp in the house is also a waste, unless it can play games.
Thanks anyway.. :(
