I need to send data from my old computer to my new computer. Burning the files on cdr's is too much. I have ethernet cords and a dsl lite modem, but all the ports are being used. There aren't any extra ethernet ports is what I mean.

Could I hook both computers up with the ethernet cord, one end on old pc, the other end of cord to new pc? I also have USB, regular Phone Lines and ports on pcs, umm and thats the only ports I can think of usuing. But I don't have a USB cord... PLEASE HELP

We've been through this already...

What did you not understand about my last post? There is software that allows you to do this, such as PC Relocator. Do a google search on transferring data to a new pc, I'm sure you will find a fistful of such programs. The best way to do this would be via networking (too expensive) or by setting your new hd as a slave (evidently too cumbersome or scary.) Your other option is software that allows you to directly connect the two pc's, such as PC Relocator. I'll even take the work of putting words into the google search box out for ya, here's a link.

If you still don't understand, or are still having a problem, please do follow up with a more specific question, as opposed to rehashing the same thing over again.

Thanks again for the extreme help, but all the sites I found said I needed cross over cables and all kidns of stuff I don't have. I guess there isn't a way just using one ethernet cord or phone line...

I can't believe they made this so hard to do, that you have to buy stuff. Sharing data between 2 computers has got to be easier and shouldn't have to cost money..

why cant you just pull the HDD out of the old PC and set the jumper to slave and stick it in the new PC and transfer the files from drive to drive?

It appears he doesn't want to for whatever reason.
