I was on 3.90M33 firmware, the other day I switched it on, - it makes the tinkly (sony) noise at starup, the screen fills with the waves- the loading/thinking circle appears in the bottom right corner- then it stays like that for 30 seconds - then the message 'disc cannot be read' appears? if i press O at this point, i CAN get to the XMB, selecting USB connection however freezes the console and i have to hold down the power button for 10 seconds to switch it off. I upgraded to 4.01M33-2 to see it it helped but it didnt.
Also, taking the battery out and using the power cord made no difference for me? we need to solve this!!!
After the above,i tried using the recovery folder method to reset the flash files and settings again - made it WORSE!! now it just stays on the waves screen and i dont get th error, however!!!, on another forum i read a similar thread and that persons PSP worked fine with a UMD in it, so i dug out my trusty copy of Lumines (never getting rid of that baby!) inserted it, and voila!, so far its working better, doesnt hang on start-up, and the USB connection works fine from the XMB, not ideal i know, as having the UMD inside will use a bit more battery, but until a solution is found, at least my psp is functioning again! but I wont work at all without a UMD, which is a real pain!
Could someone please advise on what to do? let me know if you need more details.
