dective disk or xbox 360 machine???

I bought my son a brand new copy of Tiger woods tour 2009 about 2 months ago,and it has never locked up or "froze".
Although last week when he had the game on i could hear a scratching like noise.We took the game out and there was a scratch right around half way around the disk.
I thought it was the machine but it was standing up as it should be with the xboxs 360 HDD facing the ceiling.
I took the disk to a shop that repairs scratches,and they told me this was a burn not a scratch????
We tried the disk/game and it worked so we thought job done,until about a day later and the same thing happened,another burn around the disk.The machine was again stood up with the HDD facing the ceiling.
I have tried other 360 games on the console and this has not happened to them.
Could this be the disk or the game,or intermittant fault with console,again though other games seem to work with no burns/scratches.
Help appreciated.

I highly doubt that the disc would cause that issue, unless the disc was place incorrectly in the 360 drive to begin with. You should take a pic of the disc, I'd be interested to see if it is really a burn or just a scratch from the hardware.

Unfortunately I cannot send you a picture of the disk at this time as I am in Norway,but can do in 2 weeks.I can tell yoou the burn/scratch rind around the disk is 2-3mm wide,cant be a scratch or can it be.???

I've just never heard of a game actually being "burned" by the 360. Does it actually look like it was burnt, or just a bad scratch?
