Hello All,
Just started using this. I "accidentally" installed "Easy DVD Shrink" pay version before I found the free version. I am using DVD43 and DVDShrink, however when I get to the "Backup" dialog, under one of the tabs is a dropdown to select the burn speed (using Nero 7 Essentials that came with my burner). The only choices are 20X and "Maximum" It keep burning at 18X (go figure) and my crummy TDK disks are 16x. How come there are no choices for slower speeds? On one of my other computers I have choices.
Thanks in advance!
Michael

You didn't answer my original question. Although I do appreciate the advice. Any chance you could answer my question?
Thanks,

You are not going to find many here who have used the pay version of DVD Shrink as it is a scam, not trying to be harsh just letting you know. Also DVD43 is worthless. It conflicts with your other programs and causes errors, plus it just plain does not do what it is supposed to do. So that is the reason you received the answer you did. If you wish to continue using the programs you have, at least download ImgBurn and use it for your burning. Disable the autoburn with Nero function in Shrink and manually burn your files or ISO with ImgBurn. You will be pleased with the results and will be able to have control over the process, including burn speed. Just my two cents.

I can't recall any option for "burn speed" in the "real" DVD Shrink. I only remember "Burn with Imgburn" or "Burn with Nero".
(I just looked. I don't have any "speed" setting available on my DVD Shrink and although I have Nero 7 Ultra installed on my machine, I burn exclusively with Imgburn.)
Did you uninstall the "fake" DVD Shrink? If not, maybe the two are conflicting. If you did uninstall the imposter, I would do a clean reinstall of the true DVD Shrink after a registry cleaning (CCleaner). I believe all burn speed settings for Nero must be done within Nero itself.

@peshtigo.
You don't get these speed settings with nero?
There are two(free)versions of shrink One has the "burn with nero" option and the other as you are aware has the Img option. I've honestly forgotten which version(s) of nero that shrink wont work with.
But as you say Img is the better burner. :)
cheers.

Hello onya,
Yes, that is correct that I do NOT get those choices for Burn Speed. Any suggestions?
To the Group: Yes, I read the Stickies and several threads and that is why I uninstalled the "paid" version and installed the FREE version of DVDShrink. I'm trying to get my son's computer to work correctly and stop making so many coasters. I understand, in hind-sight, that I bought crappy TDK media so that is why I am trying to make changes to DVDShrink settings to make fewer coasters. I've read ScubaPete's guide and am folloing it however unfortunately I have DVD43 installed on my son's computer. I will move to DVDDecrypter but I would like to solve this problem where I am unable to choose the Burn Speed in the dropdown. I hope that if I can choose something slower than 20x that we will make fewer coasters. So any help appreciated.
Question: Why use DVDFab instead of DVDDecrypter? I understand that Imgburn is preferred over Nero, again why is that? Is it faster? More reliable? etc.
Thanks again,
Michael

mjgillen, you hit a nerve in this community. You don't eat meat loaded with maggots! You throw it out. That is what you do with maggot riddled software. There are a million reasons why you might not have choices but they are all bad! No one cares why you have more choices on one computer than another. Nor do we care if the maggot meat has 101 maggots or 102 maggots on it. There is no difference to us. It is unusable! Throw it out.
Nero is substandard in my book as well but is not total garbage like DVD43, Sonic, Roxio, etc. Any software that does not allow you to pick a burn speed for whatever reason, needs to be uninstalled. There is good software for free that works great. It is unconceivable to anyone here why you would want to use garbage. I am sure that this is only the tip of the iceberg. If they screwed that up the software is screwed up all over the place where you can't see.
I hate Nero because it doesn't give enough choices. I talked with Nero's technical support years back they blamed the lack of choices on the OS, the firmware and the drive but not the real cause, Nero. If I think I need to burn at 1X why should some software keep me from doing what I want? It would be one thing if I had to pay a hundred dollars to get it right but there are free solutions.
missed your last post. DeFab is the last standard ripper left that still has a free version that I know of. You use that first and imageburn last. Use the sequence posted in this thread that is SOP for 99% of the veteran users. No one cares how you want to do it. We all agree how to do it right. I saw no disagreement in this thread. Sometimes you just need to take advice on faith that we just might know what we are talking about.

Gotcha. Uninstalling. Moving to DVDFab HD, FixVTS, and DVDShrink with Imgburn. I'll teach myself and my sons. Shouldn't take long. Thanks for the advice.
I'll even toss the substandard media so I don't waste my time which is more valuable than the cost of the media.
Thanks again!

When I open shrink and then point it to files, I get three choices and the fastest being 2.4X. If I use Ripi4me with dvd decrypter, fixvts and shrink and nero..then I get multiple choices (as per pic) If I use ImgBurn then I get all speed choices and number of copies required.

Short answer? Coz it's free, less twitchy, just a less bloated burner...the reasons just keep on going. It is an outstanding choice...simple really.
Cheers.
EDIT: in bold

Great! Yes, toss the media or what I do is use it for computer back ups. You might think that is risky but the computer burners read better than DVD readers. We go through extra steps so that when we put the movie into the DVD player it plays perfectly. We could skip steps if we were to only watch the video from the computer. The idea is you want a good copy every time. You go through extra steps to insure every disk is good. Otherwise, you will spend hrs trying to figure out what failed.
I can tell you you can take DVD that skips badly or even hangs up because it is scratched or the pressing of the foil was not good. Run it through the SOP and the copy does not skip once. Again, the computer burners can read better than the players. The FixVTS repairs the damaged spots.

Greetings to ?down under?.
Crappy media is actually OK for back ups as long as it is not too crappy. If the media is good enough to play at all on a player it is fine for something that will only be read by a burner. I do set the verify to on when making back ups. If I have a problem I throw the disk out. That is rare so I do it all the time.
I am too cheap to throw out anything that might be useful.

There is nothing wrong with the practice of verifying, just DO NOT put too much faith in it.

I am a big boy. I will not come to crying to anyone if I screwed myself by being too cheap.
I have never actually paid the price for my cheapness. The closest was when I bought 1,000 distressed blanks for $50 plus 100 shipping on eBay. I figured I could do something with them even if I had to burn at 1x. This was maybe 6-7 years ago when blanks cost $50/100 on sale in a brick and mortar store. I realized when they did not work I had to pay 100 to get a refund of 50! Years later I got a little lite-on TV DVD recorder that used them just fine. I give the kids a 50 pack without batting an eye. I am still working them off. So even my biggest foolishness paid off.
onya, I know and you couldn't have picked a better person to poke run at. I am a 'tail puller' from way back. It feels good to get yanked every now and then. Most people don't even waste their breath with me.

Wipes away me tears of frustration not being able to convince you better...lol
Kids? Don't get me started. I only buy the real cheapo imation cd's or sony or tdk gold cd's. The amount of music they burn to them only to throw 'em away a week later, is staggering. Little sods...lol.
Three teenagers and two up and comings...I should buy shares in the rubbish media companys! We should join forces...we'd make a mint buddy.
Cheers.

My kids are now old enough to appreciate/understand the convenience of mp3's/mp3 players/playing tunes from pc's (and movies via xbox/pc's) so disc usage/wastage isn't a problem for me. However i have no qualms about throwing dvd's and cd's in the bin, let's face it they only cost pennies. The only thing i am very wary of is the handling of discs that are definitely for keeping.
argh! - edited for spelling

Yes agreed! That is why I never get caught, because junk disks are one thing, serious stuff always gets burned with proven grade A media. Sometimes spotty stuff can come from ?good numbers?. I always buy 6 months supply if the price is right. I run tests and depending of just how good they are, I put aside a month or more of the best stuff for special jobs.
The digital age has opened up new possibilities in the entertainment world. Mp3s are way more convenient than vinyl.
You can have a huge library on an ipod.

Well I'll be dipped in...spit! All these years that I've used Shrink and I find out there are burn speed settings. I just found them. The only way they're visible is to set to burn with Nero (which I have never used) with Shrink. From day one I have set to burn with DVD Decrypter and then in recent years, of course, Imgburn. Wow! Wrong two times already today. Now I'm shakin' like a sick dog. Excuse me until later. HeHe.

Good one Peshtigo!
We do not thoroughly know such a well used app like that. We should all pause to scratch our asses and contemplate or not.
