hello, i wanted to buy a psp because i'm a gamer. preferably the best psp. i was going to buy a psp3000 but apparently there is a lot of complaining about "scanlines" but overall, better picture than predecessors. the other two have so called "dead pixels". so i'm confused. which one should i get, i wanted psp3000 because of BIG visual quality improvement, but not if all i see are scanlines. also, i don't want to see dead pixels, it has to be perfect. which is for me?

if i use the av cable when i play games, will there be scanlines on the screen i'm using via psp3000? obviously there wouldn't be dead pixels because they're dependant on the lcd not internal hardware.

and why the heck is banjo tooie ( a game for nintendo 64) more expensive than the majority of psp games?!? £30

thanks for your help guys, (if you reply) :-)

yer there has been a lot of complaints about the scan lines on the new 3000 (though im sure that its likely down to software)
but you are very very very unlikely to get dead pixels as iv never really heard a case of it though the fat 1000 screens are very cheap and quick to replace so i guess people do that.

personally its a bit of a toss up between the 2000 and 3000. the 2000 is still very good and does not have any problems as far as i can tell

the 3000 is a lot sharper and has so small extra features. im not sure if the scanlines are hardware or software problem im not sure because it could be hardware not have the speed to refresh the screen or the software using the same slim refresh rate.

i think if you put it up to a t.v they should not be there but i may be wrong

so id advise ether getting a 2000, bearing the scan lines on the 3000 ( think they only appear for fast moving images) or wait for a fix on the 3000

a n64 game may be more expensive because its a lot harder to get hold of because they are not being made any more but it's still a bit stupid iv seen some ps1 games for £40

hope that helps

i have seen some images of 3000 vs 2000, as far as i can tell, the colors are "true" on the 3000, that's how good it is, while the 2000 is just them bright yellows and strong reds etc. yes the scan lines are visible but i wouldn't say they were murder. just noticable i guess. i'm really keen on the 3000 model. if only someone put on a video to preview. according to a company, dunno which one cos it was 4 letters. they said it was a hardware thing, hence no software update. i'm just wondering if it's the lcd so maybe i can hook it up to my big pc monitor at home, or if it's internally, meaning if i hook it, i can still see the bleedin lines.

the game in question isn't exactly rare, it's a really popular title, just wondering how an old popular title is more expensive than a new popular title

use that to choose

though i think sony wont just leave people who have bought these ones with the interlacing problems so they might replace it after they fix it .

but im not sure

so id advise waiting till its fixed which shouldnt be too long

hmmm... the lines dont look too bad. is it a brightness issue? because 1stly, it looked WAY too bright, secondly the video didn't show other brightnesses. i think i'm going to have to wait. even though i have never had a psp, hence waited 3 years, it appears the current manufacture is a rubbish procedure. when my friends play on it, it looks amazing but on the internet, dead pixels and these lines are really putting doubts in my mind.

do you NEED to have a memory card in? i read on this forum, someone messed up his device cos he deleted memory card. is the operating system not on the psp itself?!? i wouldn't want to make my psp unusable just because i deleted memory card. isn't there something like restore factory settings in order to start fresh again?

EDIT: do you think i should get a psp 3000 for £150

or a psp 2000 (both new) for £60?

Get psp 2000 definitly. You can't put psx games on psp 3000 cause it's not possible to make a pandora for it. It's completly (well not completly) unhackable. And about the scanlines well I just don't know about that but psp 2000 wont give you that surely. The short answer is PSP 2000!
Tell me what you buy.

and after one full charge it only plays like for a hour a
And psp 2000 plays for I think 3 hours. I don't have to charge my psp barely.

i'm not too bothered about battery life and anyway, i'm hoping to get a solar charger which workers with psp and all my phones. (solarmonkey)

the thing that is making me not buy one (yet) is the fact that soooo many people have complained about dead pixels and scanlines, and so the idea i've got in my head is that even though psp looks amazing, it's new and rubbish and needs a few more releases before we start talking quality. so even though i really want one, i think sony needs to do it's revision.

both my ta-086 3.51 and original ta-085 3.60 slim have no dead pixels.

after switching both to custom firmware, i can get 5 hours on the fat, and 7-8 hours on the slim. both have the official sony 2200mAh battery.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

i dont want to do any custom stuff because i've never had a console so i don't want to risk damaging my first console, that'd be stupid. i wanna do everything original, i might get a second hand one, hopefully below £50 even if it's the 1st version.

as for dead pixels, there's no doubt most people have got perfect versions, but according to the web, the amount of dead pixels is worrying

People on the web sometimes exaggerate things. But, hey, you're the one who's going to buy, not me. I've got a PSP 2000. It works great. No problems... yet... :D

the scanlines are a hardware problem or according to sony a "feature" to make the images brighter and more vivid the problem is the interlaced images are arranged horizontally and the blue pixels are much darker and becomes more apparent during fast motion specifically on ps1 games and sony does not plan on fixing it because as they put it "its a feature" personally they are not that bad as for battery life its been tested by sony and other sources that the battery life is the same since they have cut down power usage on other hardware to make up for the screen which is 5 and half hours give or take depending on playing videos umds or music
for me its a matter or custom firmware because i want and like doing things that are fan made to increase my capability of filling time and i like the fact the psp 3000 has options to reduce flicker, reduce glare five times the contrast ratio, double the gamut, and double the response time plus i dont have to carry my mic and psp remote everywhere since its built in so once it can be pandorized without having to swap the motherboard and lose the lcd ill get it.
Edit:
i should also mention when i bought my psp slim new it had 2 dead pixels and after only 2 weeks i broke the lcd so i bought a replacement lcd and brand new it came with 1 dead pixel but its not really noticeable so its not as bad as having scanlines
