What would cause the drive to do this? it was a backup

My drive carved up my rockband 2 disk. Did you bump the drive? or did it suddenly stop playing? If the disk falls back into the tray while still spinning, it will scratch it.

what does bump the drive mean? oh lol neva mind, I think I may have slightly nudged the front of the tray up a little while it was on, is this possible and will it cause scratches? what does falls into the tray mean>?
