DVD to AVI..........HELP I'M IN HELL!

I just recently purchased the Archos AV340 and I have been trying to put some of my favorite DVD's on it, But I have run into a problem. I need a program to make them AVI files. I purchased software from a company call Yasasoft and it worked for one day and then the next time I used it it crashed and now it never works. Can anyone help me please! I just need good software thats able to do the job. I'm a newbie and I'm lost!
