Hello, this is my first post, this is a great site, been reading alot.
I have successfully copied some DVD's for backup. the play great on my Plextor DVD burner. When I put the disc in the standalone (Sharp -R) it plays the intro then seems to go into pause, I have learned to press stop and then play again and it moves to the rating clip. If I keep doing this sequence it gets to the movie I can choose play movie and everything is fine. This is a long way to go to watch the movie. What can I do to get this DVD to play through? I thought about just copying the movie but I don't want the subtitles. Any help would be appreciated

use dvd shink. it will compress the files to fit on a 4.7g disk and gives you the option to re-author. here you can delete any unwanted files or just copy the movie. there are excellent guide line on this site sumwhere on DVD Shrink,
hope this helps

Ok, I used DVD Shrink and cut out everything that I did not want but now with just recording the movie I can't get rid of the sub titles. How do I do that?

(Huuummm ;-(

How does the original behave ?

Can you choose no subtitles in that one and have it play without them ?

What DVD is it and what format is it in ?? NTSC or PAL

When you play the backup, can't you go to the root in menu and play it straight through ?

Get back to me with those answers and we'll see if an answer exists -

The Movie is Hollywood Knights. When I play the orginal in the standalone I have to go to the menu and check no subtitles. Get this on the DVD that I copied it plays with no subtitles in my pc but has the subtitles on the sharp-r standalone. I'm in the US so I don't think it is PAL. I have checked for an option on the sharp for subtitiles but I could not find one.

Tornado,

I'd like to see if it plays on another standalone besides yours & see if there are subtitles -

I'm also wondering why it wants to play subtitles by default - that's why you have to check "no subtitles", makes no sense -

Is your "original" from the Studio or from another source ?

OK, let's try another standalone - a really great way to check it out is head over to the mall or other locale where there is a large electronics display and try it in their display DVD players - we'll have our answer fast enough -

Also make another backup leaving everything in place, and then you should have the same option as the original, check the "no subtitles" box and see if that works :-)

( me a-thinkin' that on other players you'll not have the subtitles just like on your PC :-))
