This has probably been asked before but I haven't managed to find the appropriate thread so my apologies in advance if that is the case. I am pretty much of a noob when it comes to DVD authoring.

I recently converted a pile of my old band videos to DVD using a VHS/DVD combo recorder. What I'd like to do is have each song as a chapter so when viewing I can use the skip button to move to the beginning of the next track. The files are in .vob format.

IS there a software I can use to do it with or do I need to convert them to mpeg or some other format. Actually I wouldn't mind being able to delete a few tracks but mostly I would be happy to be able to skip complete tracks.

Thanks in advance.

The authoring programs I see mostly have fixed chapter point settings.

To customize them you have to demux your DVD, write a text file listing the video frame where each chapter changes then put the dvd back together with the new chapter times.

Start by loading the VTS_01_1.VOB into Avidemux and note the frames where you want a chapter point.
Close Avidemux.

Use Notepad and make a simple list;one frame number on each line and save as celltimes.txt.

Open the DVD in 'Pgcdemux'.
'Mode' => 'By PGC'.
Also elect to demux the video
You should end up with a folder containing the video, audio, subtitles, etc.

Run 'Muxman' and select all the streams, then on the top menu 'File' =>'Import Chapter' load the .txt file you created.

You can test the operation with a media player that supports DVD functions (VLC is one - choose to 'Open Directory' and step through the chapters).

TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 can set chapter points at any position you choose. Then just go to your DVD menu and view any that you choose or play continuously.
