I was thinking that instead of buying a Kreon drive, it might be possible to connect my Xbox's HItachi drive to the PC via sata cable, pretty much in the same way as I would connect it to flash it. THen, once you entered in mode B, the hitachi drive should be recognized in windows. From windows, then I should be able to insert the original game in the HItachi drive, and the rip from there. Then burn it.
Has anyone out there tried this method?

I hope my logic is not too messed up, I mean, the whole purpose of buying a Kreaon drive is because it has the proper firmware to recognize the Xbox 360s game format. In this case, the Hitachi drive, or any Xbox360 drive for that matter, should be able to substitute the Kreaon since the hitachi drive has the proper firmware...am i right?

try downloading the xbox 360 textbook. a great place to start.

And yes, it is possible. I believe this was the original method of ripping 360 games before the kreon drive was developed. reference the super sticky for more information.

Yea like meatful2 said this was the original method, the only reason ppl avoid this is because it requires your drive to be out of the xbox, and if you only have one 360 then you have to keep putting it back and taking it out.

or you could buy the top mod from Xecuter... you open up your box, plug in a few wires, close it back up and you will never have to open it again, as it has a passthrough sata port on the side plate.

Pros- never have to open the box again to firmware flash the drive
-can use it to rip games without opening it up

Cons - might as well buy a kreon drive for the price.

I've never used this method, so I could be wrong with this statement but...

I had thought that you could only use the samsung drive to rip games to your hard drive. I didn't think you could use the hitachi.

need jtag help? Xbox 360 console repair? PM me or chat
